EDWARD BARBER says he was ecstatic when he was first informed that he will be part of the movie of Aga Muhlach and Bea Alonzo, “First Love”, which was even shot in Vancouver, Canada. “I really can’t believe it that I’m part of their movie as I admire them both so much, being two of the biggest names and best actors in local showbiz,” he says. “I was really speechless when my manager called me on the phone and told me about. Nakaka-freak out and I couldn’t believe it. I didn’t know what to say. It really took a while bago nag-sink in na may bagong movie ako and it’s with Aga and Bea no less.”
He was then with his ka-love team, Maymay Entrata, and when he informed her about it, his hands were shaking out of his excitement. “Kasi I’m very new in showbiz and it’s an amazing opportunity to be given this chance. But I was so nervous, so Maymay really encouraged me, kahit for the first time, hindi kami magkasama sa movie. She said, ‘Kayang-kaya mo yan. Don’t be nervous kasi you can do it and this is your chance to show that you can do it. Even when I was already with the cast and crew in Canada, Maymay would send video messages telling me na huwag akong kabahan and just focus on my work so I can deliver well in front of the camera. It also helped that I felt comfortable right away with Kuya Aga, Ate Bea and our director, Paul Soriano. They’re all very supportive, the whole cast, including Tita Sandy Andolong and Albie Casino, mabait sila. I have nothing but heartfelt gratitude for all of them.”
In the movie, Edward plays Simon, a character who has a secret but special connection with Nick, the character played by Aga Muhlach. How did Aga and Bea find Edward in the film?
“Nakakatuwa siya kasi before each take, he tells me, excuse me, and then asks for a moment muna of concentration to calm himself,” says Aga. “You know that he’s serious with his work and he wants to focus on his lines and his acting.”
“It’s nice when you see younger actors like Edward regard their craft the way you also do,” says Bea. “Pareho kami ni Aga na natuwa when we saw he loves what he’s doing and is really taking things seriously. He works very hard and you can see malayo ang mararating niya kung lalo pa niyang pagbubutihin ang trabaho niya.”
Fans would want to know what’s the real score between him and Maymay Entrata right now. Are they now officially on? “I can say that we are each other’s closest friends right now. I really appreciate it that she supported me wholeheartedly in my latest movie, kahit na hindi kami magkapareha. I would just like to tell our fans to just wait for our next TV series together under Dreamscape, ‘Honey My Love So Sweet’, under Direk Eric Salud. Maganda yon so they should not miss it.”
