Former Child Actor Ej Jallorina So Credible As A Transgender Teen In The Cinema One Entry, 'Mamu And A Mother Too', But Insists He's Straight In Real Life

EJ JALLORINA is a former child actor who used to be part of “Goin’ Bulilit”. He now plays a transgender teener in the Cinema One Originals Filmfest entry, “Mamu and a Mother Too” that’s directed by a real transgender, Rod Singh. EJ says the role is a big challenge for him since he’s not gay in real life.

“When it was first offered to me, I got so excited and I felt hindi ko puedeng tanggihan,” he says. “First time ko to play a transgender girl so it’s something really new for me. Also, very touching ang story about the relationship of a middle aged transgender, played by Iyah Mina as Mamu, and her ampon, ako yun as Bona, who is transitioning naman to being a transgender teenager na searching for her real identity. I felt I can’t refuse the project kasi I like the film’s statement about acceptance and tolerance. Yung relationship ni Mamu at ni Bona both changed them for the better. Mababago nila ang buhay ng isa’t isa.”



So how did he prepare for the role? “Nag-research ako and talked to real transgenders to gain insights on how I can play my role convicingly. Also from our director, si Rod Singh. Sobrang saya for me making this movie. May mga barkada ako rito, sina Markus Paterson as Kiko, Queenie Acedegbega as Girlie and Renzie Aguilar as Tonton at naging magkakaibigan kami talaga while shooting the movie. The whole cast is really amazing so I enjoyed the experience of making this movie so much.”
