Kris Bernal As A Woman Who Marries A Closet Queen/ Transgender That Later Becomes Her Rival Over A Man In 'Asawa Ko, Karibal Ko'

KRIS BERNAL’s last soap, “Impostora”, ended last February after a 7-month run then she was a guest in “The Cure”. Now, she stars in a new afternoon drama, “Asawa Ko, Karibal Ko” and she gets to work for the first time with two transferees from ABS-CBN, Rayver Cruz and Jason Abalos. Kris says working with Rayver is a dream come true for her.

“Super crush ko kasi siya noong araw pa na wala pa ako sa showbiz at member siya ng bagets group called Anime,” she says. “Kaya natuwa talaga ako when I learned siya ang magiging leading man ko ngayon, kahit sobrang tagal na niyon. Pero huwag na lang bigyan ng ibang kahulugan at taken na ako. Ayaw rin ni Janine (Gutierrez), e in a relationship na rin yata sila.”

What if she’d be asked to love scenes with him? “Kinakabahan ako, but no need to worry kasi we can be very professional about it naman. Love ko si Janine, ang ganda-ganda niya. Mabait pa, kaya respetuhan lang. Pero siempre, kikiligin ako kasi ang guwapo niya, pero hanggang doon lang.”

Does Rayver know about it? “Yes, we had a workshop before we started taping at doon ko sinabing crush ko siya dati. Magaan siyang katrabaho kaya naging comfortable kami agad sa isa’t isa. We both dance so sana, mabigyan kami ng chance to do a dance number together while promoting our show that will start airing on October 22, kapalit ng ‘The Stepdaughters’.”

In “Asawa Ko, Karibal Ko”, Kris plays Rachel, a young woman who is pressured by her family to marry Jason Abalos as Nathan. Unknown to her, Nathan is really gay and is unhappy in their marriage so he fakes his own death and later on undergoes sexual reassignment and also had cosmetic surgery to change her appearance abroad. Many year later, Rachel meets Rayver Cruz as Gavin and they fall in love. Unknown to her, Gavin already has a wife, Thea Tolentino as Venus. Little did she know that Venus was her former husband, Nathan. Also in the cast of “Asawa Ko, Karibal Ko” are Lotlot de Leon, Ricardo Cepeda, Jean Saburit, Maricris Garcia, Devon Seron, Analyn Barro, Matthias Rhoads, Phil Noble, Caprice Cayetano and Kevin Santos, under the direction of Mark Sicat de la Cruz. “Nagpapasalamat talaga ako sa GMA kasi after ‘Impostora’, heto at isa na namang napakaganda at challenging na project ang ibinigay nila sa akin,” she adds.

Kris is one young actress who knows how to handle her earnings well. She has invested in several businesses and even got to buy a house in West Covina, California, making some folks insinuate that she must have a wealthy benefactor.

“Naku, sino kaya yun?” she laughs. “I don’t have any benefactor. Talaga lang I know how to invest my money wisely. I’m not spendthrift na gastos dito, gastos doon. I’ve been working for more than ten years kaya hindi naman siguro katakataka kung marami na akong naipon. Wala naman akong bisyo at hindi talaga ako gastadora. Yun lang yon.”
