SOPHIE ALBERT should thank Winwyn Marquez for turning down the role of Amber in “Pamilya Roces” as she’s now getting great feedback for her portrayal of such an offbeat role. “I can understand why Winwyn backed out kasi international beauty queen siya and Amber is such a jologs girl na katawatawa ang dating with her flashy outlandish outfits,” says Sophie. “I took a risk when I consented to play it and it’s now paying off with the good comments I’m getting even on social media. Dahil dito, maraming nakakapansin sa akin, which never happened before. Maraming natutuwa sa pagiging kikay ko. Naaaliw raw sila, pero siempre may mga natete-turn off din sa pagiging sobrang agresibo ko kay Rocco Nacino. Pero okay lang, basta sa ikagaganda ng show.”
Doesn’t her real life BF Vin Abrenica ever get jealous with her because of her romantic scenes with Rocco? “Yung pagiging agresibo ko naman, sa show lang yun. I’m not like that with men in real life kasi, sa totoo lang, may pagka-introvert ako. I will never initiate a conversation with other guys and Vin knows that. Supportive naman siya. He even pushes me to do my best in my job. Alam niya kasing on cam lang yun at pag sumigaw na ng cut si Direk Joel Lamangan, wala na sa’kin anuman yung ginawa namin sa harap ng camera.”
So will she be open to do sexy scenes even on the big screen? “Wala namang problema, lalo na if the project is really worth it. But I do hope I will be given the chance to do a variety of roles so I can explore and show the other things that I can offer as an actress. My primary aim is to show that I am versatile enough to be able to deliver any role that they will assign to me, kahit comedy man o drama o sexy, basta makakatulong to help forward the story well.
She considers her ground-breaking role as Amber in “Pamilya Roces” a real blessing for her. “Nagpapasalamat talaga akong sa akin napunta ito kasi it not only gave me the chance to be noticed by the viewing public but also the opportunity to work with a great director like Joel Lamangan and to interact with such competent actresses like Elizabeth Oropesa, who plays my mom, and also with Gloria Diaz, Snooky Serna, Carla Abellana and all the actresses who play my half sisters in the story. Lahat sila, magagaling, si Rocco Nacino, very helpful talaga sa akin in our scenes together, and we all form a good team in a really good ensemble to make our show work really well and be liked by the public on primetime.”
Hopefully, the role of Amber will open new doors for Sophie to have more challenging roles and projects in the near future. Right now, she’s in the cast of a new Regal movie, “Recipe for Love”, where she plays contravida to newcomer Cora Waddell as she tries to steal Cora’s leading man, Christian Bables. It opens in theatres on November 21.
