Kate Valdez Gets Praise From Director Gina Alajar For Her Convincing Acting In Her Breakdown Scene In 'Onanay'

KATE VALDEZ, one of the Kapuso network’s most promising newcomers, says she’s aware that a lot of the regular viewers of “Onanay” hate her as Natalie for being so mean to her sister Maila, played by Mikee Quintos. “Alam kong kontrabidang-kontrabida ang dating ko para sa kanila, but I hope those who watch the show would understand that I’m just doing what my role requires from me,” she says. “At lately nga, parang inabot na ako ng karma dahil dahan-dahang nabubulag na ako sa story.”

In the last few episodes, she and Mikee were stranded in an island and because of that, they were finally able to bond as sisters. They eventually got rescued and brought back to the city but some complications occur. Due the accident she met while in the island, Kate as Natalie is now slowly losing her eyesight, worrying no end her very protective grandamother, Cherie Gil as Helena.

Director Gina Alajar praises Kate for that she scene where she had a breakdown because of her fear that she is going blind. “In fairness kay Kate, nailarawan niya nang husto ang takot niya sa maaaring mangyari sa kanya,” says Gina. “Pareho sila ni Mikee na hindi nagpapahuli sa veteran co-stars nila ritong sina Nora Aunor and Cherie Gil pagdating sa aktingan.”

So has she gotten rid of her feeling of awkwardness when she started directing Nora in the show a few months ago? “I’m really so happy na tinanggap niya ang role ng Nelia, mother of Onay,” says Gina. “Kasi noong una, hindi pa sure. And when she finally agreed to do it, siempre, kinabahan ako kasi Nora Aunor siya. Baka madulas ako, sabihin ko, Guy, ganito ang gagawin mo ha. So, very careful ako when I’m giving her directions. In fairness to her, she already knows what to do based sa kung anong nakasulat pa lang sa script. Hindi mo na talaga kailangang sabihan pa siya, kasi alam na niya agad kung ano ang gagawin niya.”
