JANINE GUTIERREZ is very happy that although her mom, Lotlot de Leon, and dad, Ramon Christopher, are now estranged, they have managed to remain friends. “Na-meet na ng dad ko ang bagong husband ng mom ko (Fadi El Soury),” she says. “We all had dinner together at ang saya naming lahat.”
She and her three siblings are happy to see their mom now well settled after her wedding to Fadi last December. How about her dad? Does he have any similar plans? “As of now, ni wala pa nga siyang ipinakilalang bagong girlfriend sa amin and he said he has no plans na magpakasal uli. But then, siyempre, hindi natin masasabi what happens in the future, di ba?”
She took her dad, two sisters and only brother to the States recently. “Basta as of now, happy si Dad na asikasuhin kami ng mga kapatid ko. Lahat naman kami, we will not object in case he finds someone new. Ang mahalaga, maging happy rin siya. Yung trip namin sa States, bakasyon lang talaga. Yung two sisters ko, first time to visit the U.S. My brother Diego, nasama ko na last year nang may work roon. As for my Dad, last time niyang nakapunta sa States was 30 years ago pa kaya tuwang-tuwa rin siyang makabalik doon. ”
Her new movie, “Elise”, is opening in theaters on Wednesday, February 6, and she admits feeling nervous about it. “Siempre, kabado ako kasi first time ko to play a title role and I’m praying hard na panoorin sana ng tao. I guarantee naman na masisiyahan ang viewers dito kasi magaling yung director namin, si Joel Ferrer, who has fresh ideas on how to develop a love story. Masaya ang set namin kasi he’s a young director na hindi dictatorial.”
How is “Elise” different from other romantic comedies? “Kakaiba talaga siya kasi it’s based on a true story ng director namin. Then may pagka-throwback siya as it’s set in the 90s. Although I play the title role, the story revolves more on Enchong Dee. Magkababata kami rito na nagkahiwalay, then we meet again as grown ups and he realizes that he has still feelings for me pero hindi niya masabi. It’s not your typical love story, lalo na ang ending. Siempre, hindi ko puedeng i-reveal. Basta panoorin nyo kasi ibang-iba talaga siya.”
Janine has a new movie and she also has a new TV series on GMA-7, “Dragon Lady”. “This one is also unique because I transform into a dragon dahil isinumpa ako. Kasama ko rito sina Tom Rodriguerz, Diana Zubiri, Maricar de Mesa, Edgar Allan Guzman, James Blanco, Joyce Ching, directed by Paul Sta. Ana”.
