KATRINA VELARDE has been tagged as the Suklay Diva after several videos showing her singing famous songs of international artists, while using a comb as her pretend microphone, went viral online worldwide, especially when she sang “Beyonce’s Dangerously in Love”.
The video catapulted her to mainstream prominence especially when Beyonce’s guitarist Bibi McGil shared it on her social media platforms. International R&B superstar Chris Brown then also tweeted her video to his millions of followers after he picked it up from www.worldhiphop.com, where she was named Best Female Artist of the Week in 2013.
Katrina has actually been singing since she was 7 years old and regularly joined local amateur singing contests where she often won. On TV, she joined “Little Big Star” and “Talentadong Pinoy”. The cash prize she gets is a big help to their poor family living in the slums of Tondo. She then joined “X-Factor Philippines” and became the vocal arranger of the all-girl group AKA JAM with Gary Valenciano as her mentor.
TV5 then got her to be part of the TV show “Trenderas” with Lara Maigue and Isabel de Leon, and "Bitterella" in "Wattpad Presents", where she showed she has a natural flair for comedy. On youtube, her amusing webisodes where she gives make up tutorials and product reviews are very popular with netizens around the world.
Viva Live now gives her the chance to fulfill one of her dreams, have her first big concert at the New Frontier theatre on February 1, imaginatively titled “SiKAT Ako!”.
“I want to thank Viva from the bottom of my heart for this wonderful opportunity to showcase my talent in my own concert,” she says. “Sana manood po kayo kasi I promise to give my all, my very best, in each song that I will perform on that special night. I promise na mage-enjoy kayo, along with my guests, sina Gary Valenciano, my companions sa BuDaKhel group when we sang ‘One Sweet Day’ that got 10 million hits online, sina Bugoy Drilon, Darryl Ong and Michael Pangilinan. Kasama rin namin ang Adlib dancers at marami pa pong ibang surprise guests so don’t miss it po.”
