Jane Oineza Tackles Her Most Daring Role To Date In Iwant's Digiserye, 'Project Feb. 14' With JC Santos & McCoy De Leon

JANE OINEZA, who has won awards as best child actress, gets to play her most daring role to date in the iWant original series, “Project Feb. 14’, an edgy tale about millennials who want to commit suicide. It is full of sex and violence and will certainly not pass without being butchered if it were to be reviewed by the MTRCB. But it’s going to be shown live streaming on cable, so you can then see it intact in all its sexy and gory details.

Jane’s leading men are JC Santos and McCoy de Leon and they all play damaged, tormented individuals carrying such huge emotional baggage. Jane as Annie is totally neglected by her parents who choose to devote all their attention to her autistic brother, so she rebels by becoming a cyber prostitute. It’s online that she meets McCoy as Brix, the son of wealthy but absentee parents who left him under the care of his nanny who sexually abused him even as a child. They become lovers and agree to commit suicide together on February 14, the day of hearts.

They ask an award-winning documentarist, JC as Cody, to record their last few days before they kill themselves on camera. What follows is a harrowing tale of twisted minds clashing with each other and ending in a tragic game where no one really wins. It turns out Cody is another disturbed soul, an orphan who grew up with a cruel aunt who maltreated him and physically abused him. He’s a schizophrenic who sees apparitions and haunted by a girl whose life he messed up in one of his documentaries.

Writing about tortured persons suffering from various hangups is the specialty of Jason Laxamana, as seen from his past films like, “2 Cool 2 B Forgotten”, “100 Tula Para Kay Stella” and “Day After Valentine”. But here, he really goes to town since he knows his work doesn’t have to go through censorship. There’s nudity, kinky acts, and bloodbaths. The scene where a character shoots to death her own parents reminds us of Terrence Mallick’s 1973 film, “Badlands”, where the teenage characters go on a crime spree.

All the three leads in this lethal love triangle give superlative performances, particularly Oineza and Santos who seem to fully understand the gravity of their roles. It works mainly because of the strength of its competent cast. The question is whether viewers will be able to relate with them as they seem to be people, who, despite their youth, have already quickly lost all their reasons and motivation for living.

What they clearly need is professional help from a good therapist to help them combat their feelings of negativity after their sad personal experiences and the dehumanizing atrocities inflicted by the very people who are supposed to care for them. It’s pretty strong stuff and can be tough, harrowing viewing at times as these people seem to be trapped in a deadend. They look like to be actually enjoying hurting themselves, and also each other, making this the opposite of a feel good show with zany positive characters.
