Mader Ricky Reyes Invites All Beauty Practitioners To Attend Filhair's Jade Beauty Eve

MADER RICKY REYES invited us to join his sorties in the provinces some years ago for his “Isang Gunting, Isang Suklay” program with the Filipino Hairdressers Association or FilHair. This offers livelihood programs to help jobless Pinoys learn how to do hair and make up and start their own salons. We didn’t realize that it was more than three decades ago.

FilHair is now celebrating its 35th anniversary with a big event that aims to gather some 12,000 people in the beauty industry to a whole day event on April 23, the Tuesday after Holy Week, at the Metro Walk Tent in Ortigas Center starting at 9 AM. As president for life of FilHair, Mader Ricky says there will be competitions: best in men’s haircut, evening make up, bridal make up, and a color master award for the best in creative hair coloring. Other new categories are “Do Me a Barbie”, Nail Art and Mask categories, and a Fabulous Cleopatra look.



The overall winner will get a free round trip ticket plus 4 days/ 3 nights accommodations in Singapore for the APHCA (Asia Pacific Hairdressers and Cosmetologist Association) Hair Olympics to be held this coming November. There will also be tutorial and training sessions on the latest techniques and trends in hair and makeup, like Brazilian and Kera Gloss treatment and application, all to be conducted for free.

The judges in the competitions will be industry leaders from Mainland China, Hongkong, Korea, Macao, Malaysia, Singapore and Taiwan. Since he started “Isang Gunting, Isang Suklay”, Mader Ricky has given jobs to 186,000 people from Aparri to Jolo. They’re now connected with TESDA and they’ve just had a graduation for 2,400 people who attended two-months of training.

Helping Mader Ricky in his projects are Rhodora “Tita Doray” Pascual Morales of ACTS OFW party list and Mommy Flor Santos of Papa Kim’s Cakes and Mesa Restaurant.

Mader Ricky has also aligned with the LGBT community to conduct livelihood training programs for its members. “Instead of the usual gay beauty pageants and street protests where they cheapen themselves by parading in women’s clothes, I told them we should just join hands in serving our countrymen whether straight, gay or lesbian.”

Really, this makes Mader Ricky one gay who makes a lot of difference in society by helping other gays to make themselves earn on their own.
