ERIC QUIZON has two memorable films shown last year, the hit Mother Day’s presentation “My 2 Mommies” and the 2nd best picture winner at the last Metro Filmfest, “One Great Love”. But now, he is back into acting in GMA-7’s new primetime series, “Sahaya”.
“Contravida ang role ko rito as Hubert,” he says. “I’m a greedy businessman and land grabber. My character will appear na this coming week. I’m into coral mining at gusto kong angkinin ang lupain ng mga Badjao. Anak ko si Migo Adecer as Jordan, na ka-love triangle nina Bianca Umali and Miguel Tanfelix as Sahaya and Ahmad, who are both Badjao natives. Maganda ang pagkakalarawan sa kultura ng mga Badjao rito at hindi yung usual impression na mga pulubi silang nanghihingi ng limos dito sa Manila.”
So how is it working with these young actors? “Okay naman sila. Dedicated to their craft at seryoso sa trabaho. Sina Bianca and Miguel, naidirek ko na before in a TV show. Si Miguel, naidirek ko rin noong child actor pa siya sa ‘Starstruck Kids', but this is first time na mga ka-eksena ko sila as actors. They all show a lot of promise. Bianca’s type of beauty, I really like, unique kasi and very Pinay ang dating. Ang mga mestiza kasi, parang they all look the same. Si Bianca, hindi common ang mukha niya. At nakakaarte pa.”
So is he resting from directing this time? “No, I have a new film project with Regal, ‘Does Your Mother Know?’, with Maricel Soriano and Martin Nievera. We’re tying to borrow Maine Mendoza to play Maricel’s daughter, kasi mukhang bagay silang mag-ina, but we don’t know yet kung ipapahiram ng APT Entertainment.”
He’ll focus on directing movies as of now. “Sa TV, rest muna ako from directing. Mas madali kasing magdirek sa movie dahil in less than a month, puede mong tapusin ang pelikula, unlike sa TV na magdamagan ang taping nang every other day. Nakaka-drain. But kung may magandang material for a soap, okay rin lang naman sa’king bumalik sa TV.”
