ANGELA CORTEZ accepts best actress trophy at SINAGMAYNILA FILMFEST |
ANGELA CORTEZ won as best actress in the Sinag Maynila Filmfest Awards Night last Sunday. This is for her role as a poverty-driven sex worker who is forced to do things against her will in the movie “Jino to Marie”. She tied with Sylvia Sanchez for the movie “Jesusa”. People suddenly became curious about her, asking us who is she and what are the movies she has done before.
Well, her real name is Rhea Angela Lim. She’s from Pampanga and her first brush with showbiz is as a reserved housemate (along with Cindy Miranda who’s now with Viva Films) in “Pinoy Big Brother, Season 4”. This is the batch where Slater Young was the big winner. She was already 26 years old and a single mother when she joined PBB.
She also appeared with JC de Vera in the indie movie “Best Partee Ever” shown in the QCinema Filmfest two years ago, with Joem Bascon in the Cine Filipino filmfest horror flick “Ang Tulay ng San Sebastian”, and with the late Kristoffer King in “Kristo” (also a former Sinag Maynila entry two years ago).
More recently, she played the role of Allen Dizon’s wife in Director Brillante Mendoza’s “Alpha: The Right to Kill” which won the special jury prize at the San Sebastian International Filmfest in Spain and also just recently won the jury prize at the Beaune International Filmfest in France.
No doubt the Sinag Maynila jurors were impressed with her natural and effortless kind of acting in “Jiro to Mari”, where she had a daring full frontal nudity scene while taking a bath with her little daughter and later subjected to various indignities while filming a pornographic movie for a Japanese filmmaker. She’s now on with new director Jason Orfalas of the movie “Huling Gitarista” and they just had a new baby.
