MILES OCAMPO started as a child actress and has played many kinds of roles through the years. She now plays one of the most challenging roles in her career as Agnes, a student possessed by an evil spirit in the horror flick, “Maledicto”.
“Marami na rin akong nagawang horror stories sa TV and also sa big screen,” she says. “But itong ‘Maledicto’, it’s different from anything I’ve done before. Unang-una, hindi tinipid ng Fox Philippines, our producer, ang budget nito at ginastusan talaga ang movie pati sa special effects.”
Has she seen other movies about possession like “The Exorcism of Emily Rose” and “The Possession of Hannah Grace”? “The truth is ayokong manood ng ganyan, kasi natatakot ako. It affects me at naaalala ko lagi kahit matutulog na lang ako. But itong ‘Maledicto’, I will definitely watch it. This is my biggest break sa movies at very challenging talaga ang role ko as the possessed girl. Wala pa naman akong nakitang taong nasapian ng evil spirit in real life, so I have to interpret it on my own and with the guidance of our director, si Mark Meily.”
She says she was hesitant at first to do the film. “Actually, natakot ako when I read the script pa lang, pero ang ganda talaga so I agreed to do it. Dasal lang ako nang dasal sa shooting para hindi mangyari sa’kin ang nangyari sa character that I played. Blessing ding magagaling ang mga kasama ko rito, like Tom Rodriguez as the priest who performs exorcism on me and Jasmine Curtis Smith as the nun na tumutulong sa kanya.”
The film opens in theaters on May 1 and it so happened that it is also Miles’ 22nd birthday. “First time nangyari na may movie akong magbubukas on my birthday mismo, so I’m requesting people to watch it as pa-birthday gift na lang nila sa akin.”
Last year, she remembers that John Lloyd Cruz, with whom she got close when they were doing “Home Sweetie Home” for three years, visited her at the University of the Philippines campus, where she is taking up creative writing, right on her birthday.
“Nagulat ako kasi nag-abala siya. Kumain kami sa isawan, treat niya. Sana, this coming May 1, ang request ko, manood siya ng ‘Maledicto’ as I’m really proud of my work in this movie.”
