YAM CONCEPCION’s role as Jade in “Halik” definitely boosted her career. No one really knows her before this, but her character as Jericho Rosales’ unfaithful wife in the series suddenly made people take notice of her and she became one of the most hated women in local television. How did she react to all the bitter and cruel bashings that she got?
“Actually, ang sarap ng feeling na nagagalit sila sa akin,” she says. “It means I’m effective in doing my job. Pero noong una, I admit, nasasaktan ako, kasi tao rin lang naman ako. But I realized hindi naman sila sa’kin nagagalit kundi kay Jade. I am just playing a character and, sa totoo lang, I like her, kasi she’s just human. After she had a miscarriage, she had post partum depression, unpredictable mood swings, and I can relate with her insecurities and flaws. In the end, she’s really a fighter and I can accept her victories and defeats.”
She says she’ll really miss “Halik” now that it’s going to end in two weeks. “I’ll miss all the sampalan, kahit nagkakasakitan kami. One time, nadala ako sa ER sa tindi ng sampal sa’kin ni Yen Santos. Nasaktan talaga ako but hindi naman niya sinasadya. I will miss din lahat ng kasama ko rito sa cast, lalo na si Amy Austria na para talagang naging nanay sa amin. Lagi rin siyang may baon sa set na inaabangan ko nga lagi tuwing may taping kami.
"Mami-miss ko rin ang director namin, si Direk Cathy Amarillo. Naging malalim ang connection namin kasi sobrang helpful siya sa’kin in interpreting Jade. I will miss all the friendship na nabuo namin ng buong cast sa show,” at this point, Yam becomes emotional and starts crying.
Ruel S. Bayani, head of the RSB Business Unit that produced “Halik” says it started airing last August and is a consistent hit for 8 months. “It’s the most successful show in my career as a business unit head,” he adds. “It’s currently being replayed on iWant and is one of the most viewed shows there now. Its rights have also been bought in some African countries. I’m really proud of what it has achieved and I want to thank all the actors and all the staff. We won’t be this successful without their concerted efforts.”
