anne curtis with her FPJ Memorial Award |
ANNE CURTIS is so happy that her entry in the Metro Manila Filmfest last December, the horror-thriller “Aurora”, was bought by Netflix and you can watch it there now via live streaming. Directed by Yam Laranas (he also wrote the script with his wife Gin de Mesa), it’s about a passenger ship named Aurora that gets wrecked near an island.
Anne plays an innkeeper who is tasked to find the missing bodies of the shipwreck victims. Soon, she and her younger sister start experiencing terrifying apparitions as the dead passengers of the ill fated ship come to haunt them.
“Aurora” won the second best picture award in the MMFF, also best child performer for Phoebe Villamor, and the awards for best cinematography, best sound design and best visual effects. Anne herself was named star of the night.
This is not the first movie of Anne acquired by Netflix. Prior to this, Netflix also got the rights for her action-drama, “Buy Bust”.
Last weekend, Anne also became the first woman recipient of the FPJ Memorial Award at the 67th FAMAS Awards Night held at the Meralco Theatre. This was what she wrote in her social media account about it: “It was a very special night and I would like to thank the Filipino Academy of Movie Arts and Science for giving me the recognition and as the first female recipient of the FPJ Memorial Award. Just as “Da King” led the way to make a mark in the industry with his action films, I was given the opportunity to do the action film Buy Bust that had a strong female lead. This goes to show it is an amazing and exciting time in the industry where females can take on the part as strong leads of any film, of any genre.”
