BARBIE IMPERIAL is very glad to be part of the Regal movie, “Finding You”, where she plays Grace, the first girlfriend of Jerome Ponce who broke his heart. “Dahil sa nangyari sa’min, masyado siyang nasaktan,” she says. “E, meron siyang condition na hyperthymesia, where hindi siya nakakalimot and he remembers every single thing that happened in his life. So hirap na hirap siyang mag-move on from the heartbreak that I caused him.”
She has appeared in some other movies, but she considers “Finding You”, which opens on May 29, as her first real film. “First movie ko kasi ito na may lines ako. Before kasi, dumaraan lang ako sa likod at kung may linya man ako, wala pang five words. Dito, may close up pa ako. So nagpapasalamat talaga ako sa Regal at kay Direk Easy Ferrer for making me a part of this movie. Salamat din kay Jerome at kay Jane Oineza kasi ang ganda ng naging bonding namin sa set. At ang gagaling nilang umarte so I have to give my best para hindi nila ako lamunin.”
It’s common knowledge she’s not in good terms with JM de Guzman, with whom she was linked when they did the afternoon soap, “Araw Gabi”. She got mad at him when he was a guest in the show of Boy Abunda and said she and him dated for less than a month. That prompted Barbie to write later in her social media account: “Once a liar, always a liar.”
“I never opened up about us to anyone,” she adds. “So sana, hindi na lang siya nagsalita. Para okay na kami. Ang masakit sa’kin is why do you have to lie about us, e may pinagsamahan naman kami. That’s what triggered my reaction, parang bakit ka naman magsisinungaling? E, minahal mo naman ako. Ako, hindi ako magsisinungaling about him. Minahal ko rin naman siya.”
What if ABS-CBN would pair them in another project? “Actually, may offer nga sa aming movie, si Mayor Patrick Meneses, pero sinabi ko talaga, hindi ko pa kaya. Ang feeling ko kasi, maiistorbo lang namin ang mga makakatrabaho namin kasi hindi pa kami okay sa isa’t isa. Maaapektuhan lang ang trabaho namin at madadamay ang ibang tao, so mas pipiliin kong wag na lang muna, huwag nating madiliin. Hindi pa ako talaga ready.”
So how does she feel that JM is now being linked to Ria Atayde? “Honestly, I’m happy for them. Na-meet ko na si Ate Ria and I told JM to stop talking na to me kasi kilala ko si Ate Ria, mabait na tao, at mas magkalapit ang age nila so mas maiintindihan nila ang isa’t isa. I think okay naman sila so I’m really happy for them, lalo na for him. I’m glad na nahanap na niya ang hinahanap niya and I’m happy for him. Hindi naman ako selfish.”
