SUE RAMIREZ is lucky that she is the chosen tourism amabassador of South Korea in the Philippines as this is the primary reason why she got one of the lead parts in the Phiilippine-Korean co-production, “Sunshine Family”. “I love Korea,” she says. “Dahil pabalik-balik ako rito as their tourism ambassador, three times na, it has become my fave travel destination.
"But this is the first time I stayed there for almost a month. I love their food kasi ibang level ang sarap, and this time, mas nakapagbiyahe ako outside of Seoul. Ang linis-linis ng bansa nila. Kaya lang, sobrang lamig when we shot there in November. May scenes na naka-short shorts ako at tinititiis ko lang talaga ang sobrang lamig.”
She is paired in “Sunshine Family” with KPop idol Shinwoo of the boyband called Blanc 7. Their director is also Korean, Kim Tai Sik. “Sunshine Family” is a comedy drama based on a 1992 Japanese hitr film, “Hit and Run Family”. “I though at first mahihirapan kami sa shoot because of the language barrier, but everything went smoothly kasi may intepreters naman,” she adds.
“Mababait silang lahat, very professional, lalo na si Shinwood na nagpapaturo pa sa’kin ng Tagalog words. We even get to sing together in the movie. English song that was recorded in Korea. Sa premiere night ng movie namin, he’ll be coming over to Manila and we will sing it together. Doing ‘Sunshine Family’ in Korea is really a memorable and great experience for me.”
Why is the movie’s title “Sunshine Family”? “Kasi mas maganda naman ang dating nito kaysa sa original title na ‘Hit and Run Family’, di ba? Also, the title reflects our nature as Filipinos na sunshiny ang attitude sa buhay. Kahit may problema, nakangiti pa. Yun ang nangyari sa’min dito sa movie.
"We faced a big problem nang may ma-hit and run ang father namin, si Noni Buencamino, but all bonded well as a family with the help of our mom, si Shamaine Buencamino, hanggang malampasan namin ang aming problems.”
Sue was not linked to Shinwoo because it’s common knowledge she’s now playing beautiful music with PH Boyband member Joao Constancia. She plans to take Joao to Korea one day. “I want to take him to Busan during the cherry blossoms festival kasi ang ganda talaga, tapos, ipapakain ko siya sa mga zombie roon,” she laughs.
A co-production between our own Spring Film and the Korean company, First Line Productions, “Sunshine Family” will open in theaters of June 5.
