THEA TOLENTINO is the female winner in the Artista search called “Protege” in 2012. The male winner was Jeric Gonzales. Now, they’re together again in GMA-7’s new action-drama tentatively titled “Rosang Agimat”, the show veteran actor Eddie Garcia was taping for when he collapsed. Since the time she won in “Protege”, Thea has been identified more as a contravida.
“Na-try ko rin namang makapagbida in ‘Pyra, Babaeng Apoy’, then bida-kontrabida ako in ‘Half Sisters’, hanggang sa tuluyan na akong naging kontrabida in shows like ‘Haplos’ and ‘Asawa Ko, Karibal Ko’,” she says. “But I don’t mind. Ang importante, hindi ako nawawalan ng trabaho. ‘Asawa Ko’ ended just last March at heto, may follow up project na agad ako, so it’s a blessing talaga. May mga umaasa sa’kin and, since I joined showbiz, malaki na talaga ang naitulong ko sa family ko. I’m glad to be part of our new show dahil aside from Jeric, I also get the chance to work with Gabbi Garcia, Kristoffer Martin and Gil Cuerva.”
Since they’re doing an action drama, they have to physically prepare for the stunts and action scenes they are expected to perform in various scenes.
“Ako po, nagte-training sa shooting guns, boxing, muay thai and mixed martial arts. Nakakapagod but it’s all worth it. It doesn’t just help you physically but it also helps you how to think more clearly which you can apply in your everyday life. Marunong na rin ako ngayon ng self defense at kung may magtatangka ng masama sa’kin, I would know na kung paano ipagtanggol ang sarili ko.”
With regard to her lovelife, Thea admits she has reconciled with her batchmate in “Protege”, Mikoy Morales. They broke up in 2017 but after a year, they kissed and made up.
“Biglaan lang, e. We just realized na huwag na nating lokohin ang mga sarili natin. We remained to be good friends naman kasi. Kahit noong time na supposed to break kami, we maintained our friendship and closeness to each other. Hindi siya nanligaw sa iba at hindi rin naman ako nagpaligaw sa iba. What’s nice now is we try to be really open to each other. Wala kaming itinatago sa isa’t isa.”
