SANYA LOPEZ has definitely gained more fans for her bravura performance as Mariel in GMA-7’s hit Afternoon Prime show, “Dahil sa Pag-iibig,” which surely helped boost her stock as a dramatic actress. The hashtag for the show, #DSPGantiNiMariel was number 2 in Philippine Twitter Trends. Netizens are all agog when Sanya as Mariel confirms the infidelity of her cheating husband Benjamin Alves as Eldon who’s having a secret affair with Winwyn Marquez as Portia.
She slaps him several times in their confrontation scene and delivered all her lines, full of disappointment and bitterness, very convincingly, making the show’s regular viewers applaud her heartily. “Sige, bugbugin mo yan. He deserves to be punished more severely,” they wrote.
Sanya shared a video taken in the show’s behind the scenes taping where the cast and crew are reacting positively to what she did to Benjamin Alves. They counted how many slaps and hits she inflicted oin Benjamin and they said it totalled to more than 20 times. They all praised Sanya’s heartfelt and credible performance.
As for Benjamin, his cheeks got swollen because of the intensity of Sanya’s numerous slaps. They had to get ice and place it on his cheeks to lessen the pain and the swelling. Did Benjamin reprimand Sanya for what she did to him? No, he’s very good natured about it and treated it as just being a part of his job as an actor.
Other remarks on social media about that crucial scene say: “Sanya, you’re so good! Ang galing mong sumampal, you deserve to win a best actress award!” They add that Benjamin deserved what Sanya did to her: “Ginawa ni Sanya ang lahat para mabayaran ang blood money mo sa Saudi at nang makalaya ka, tapos inapi mo pa siya, kayo ng nanay mo (Tetchie Agbayani) na sobrang pang-aalipusta nang ginawa kay Sanya.”
Of course, Sanya is very happy with all the great feedback she is getting. “All the encouraging comments inspire me to always give my best in every scene that I do for ‘Dahil Sa Pag-ibig’,” she beams. “I also want to thank our director, Ricky Davao, kasi he really guides me well in interpreting my role. Nagpapasalamat din akong very understanding si Benjamin at hindi nagalit sa akin dahil alam naman niyang ginawa ko lang iyon para sa ikagaganda ng aming show.”
