AIKO MELENDEZ has been working with ABS-CBN for nine years now and she was last seen in such soaps as “Bagani” and “Wildflower”. Now, she is with GMA-7 doing the new Afternoon Prime soap, “Prima Donnas”.
“I’m thankful to ABS for the 9 years that I’ve worked with them,” she says. “Nagpaalam naman ako sa kanila nang maayos na since wala silang bagong project for me, I’ll work muna with GMA and they gave me their permission. Alam naman nilang I am a single mother and I have two kids na pinag-aaral ko so they understand.
"In the future, puede pa rin naman ako uli bumalik at magtrabaho sa kanila. I made sure I didn’t burn bridges. Maayos pa rin naman ang relationship namin, e. At parang bumalik din lang ako sa GMA kasi this is where I started in ‘Bubble Gang’. My last soap here was ‘Basahang Ginto’ ten years ago.”
In “Prima Donnas”, she plays rhe role of Kendra. She is reunited with Wendell Ramos, who played her husband in “Wildflower” two years ago. “I’m happy to work again with Wendell who plays Jaime. Obsessed ako sa kanya rito and I’d do everything to get him, kahit patayin ko ang wife niyang si Glaiza de Castro. I’m also excited to be directed for the first time by Gina Alajar, who I respect so much as an actress.
"I’m sure, marami akong matututuhan sa kanya as my director. First time ko rin dito to work with Tita Chanda Romero as Lady Prima Rose Claveria, the very rich mother of Wendell. She’s actually a duchess kasi she married a duke in the story. Nagkasama na kami before in one film pero wala kaming eksena together so finally, heto, magkasama na kami.”
Aiko says she really prayed for a project right after the election. “Naging busy kasi ako sa kampanya then campaigning for my boyfriend, Jay Khonghun, and fortunately nanalo naman siyang vice governor of Zambales. So after the election, I prayed for work at dumating naman agad nga itong ‘Prima Donnas’ so I can say ang bait talaga ni Lord sa akin.”
