BOY2 QUIZON’s real name is Manuel. His dad is also Manuel and was then called as Manny Boy. Instead of using the traditional Junior, he opted to be called Boy2. Some friends also call him Dos. He started as a child actor in “Goin’ Bulilit” and even got nominated as best child actor for the movie “Vampira” starring Maricel Soriano.
He later did movies like “Home Alone Da Riber” with his Lolo Dolphy, “Pinoy Blonde”, “First Day High”, then helped produce “10,000 Hours”, “Camp Sawi”, “Sid and Aya”. He also acted in TV shows like “Lupin”, “Coffee Prince”, “Someone to Watch Over Me”, “Cain at Abel”. He’s been seen regularly doing comedy in “Bubble Gang” for more than ten years.
He now directs his first full length film, “I’m Ellenia L”, a comedy starring Maris Racal in the title role, produced by Spring Films, N2 Productions and Cobalt Entertainment. It will be shown as an entry in the 3rd Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino starting September 13. So how did he get into directing?
“It was my friends Neil Arce of N2, Piolo Pascual and Direk Joyce Bernal of Spring Films who pushed me to go into directing na,” he says. “Neil conceptualized this story told from the perspective of millennials. Maris plays Ellenia, who dreams of making it big as a vlogger and social media influencer. Her idol is Sue Ramirez, who plays herself. Best friend niya si Inigo Pascual as Peng, a photographer at father niya si Gio Alvarez who’s so supportive of her ambition to be a top vlogger. Also in the movie are Nova Villa, Francine Prieto and Pat Sugui.”
He thinks young people can easily relate with the story. “In this day and age where people want to be instafamous through social media, this is a movie about a young woman discovering herself in this digital world we live in now. It’s a comedy with a lot of heart in it.”
Did he ask the advice of his director uncle, Eric Quizon? “Not only him but also my lolo. I visit him sa Heritage and I talk to him kasi sa kanya ako lumaki. I grew up in showbiz. Diyan na talaga umikot ang buhay ko and I’m glad that for my first movie, ito ang dinirek ko. Mahirap ang naging journey ko but I enjoyed the entire process.”
We ask Maris how Boy2 is as a director? “He’s very collaborative. Minsan, hinahayaan niya lang kami then he’ll make his comments. Ang gusto niya kasi, natural lang, yung close to reality na parang totoong-totoo. He talked to us in our tent even before the shoot started, so parang friends lang kaming lahat. Magaan sa set.”
Boy2 says he wants to be a cool director. “I come from a family na nakilala sa comedy because of my lolo. This is his legacy. So I want a relaxed atmosphere sa shoot. I made sure that the movie will have plenty of laughs using some classic ways of doing gags but also making sure that we injected our own brand of new and modern humor.”
Was he aware the Marnigo love team broke up while shooting the movie? “No, nagulat na lang ako as people were telling me, paano pa yang movie mo, nag-break na mga artista mo. But sa totoo lang, napansin ko, mas lumalim ang acting nila after they broke up.”
