WAGAS cast: regine angeles, mike tan, leanne bautista, & sunshine dizon |
WAGAS presscon hosted by Lovely Abello |
SUNSHINE DIZON is one of the Kapuso Network’s prized stars. She’s never jobless for a long time. Her hit afternoon drama show, “Ika-6 na Utos”, ran for 14 months and right after that, she was given a new show right away on primetime, “Kambal Karibal”. This was quickly followed by a stint in “Inday Will Always Love You”, then “inagaw na Bituin".
Now, she is in the cast of two new shows no less. She plays the lead role in the first offering of “Wagas” title “Throwback Pag-ibig” which starts showing this Monday morning as pre-program to “Eat Bulaga”. And she’s now also taping for a new soap, “Magkaagaw”, with Sheryl Cruz, Jeric Gonzales and Klea Pineda.
Well, the fact that she’s so busy is not surprising because you can count on Shine as really a good actress. She really shines whatever role GMA gives her, whether it’s a lead role or a contravida role or in a supporting role like in the movie “Rainbow’s Sunset” which just gave her a couple of best supporting actress trophies.
In “Throwback Pag-ibig”, she plays July (if you don’t know it yet, she was really born in the month of July, July 3 to be exact). She’s happily married to Mike Tan as Ryan. But their marriage crumbled when they tragically lost their daughter called Smile in the floods. They were blaming each other for what happened. They eventually drifted apart and lead their own separate lives. But as the show’s title indicates, there will be a throwback in their lives and there seems to be hope for a reconciliation.
In real life, it’s common knowledge that Sunshine has called it quits with her husband, Timothy Tan. What if a throwback situation would happen to them also, just like in “Wagas”, would she be amenable?
“Honestly, mahirap sagutin yan, but, well, it takes two to tango,” she says. “It has to work both ways. Kasi lahat ng tao, puede namang magbago. I look at the positive side of life. If it’s bound to happen, hindi mo naman kailangang ipilit. Ultimately, it boils down to forgiveness. Dapat complete, kasi kung may natitirang hurt and bitterness, it will not work.”
In “Throwback Pag-ibig”, while she and Mike are separated, Sunshine becomes a successful dress shop owner with her July Brides and Gowns. But even if she has achieved success in her career, she feels that her life is not complete. Then she meets Mike again, who’s also doing well in his own career, but has a new girlfriend, Regine Angeles as Amor.
Hope springs anew when Sunshine gets the news that her daughter, whose remains were never found in the floods, is still alive (played by child actress Leanne Bautista) and is under the care of Lovely Abella. Will this be the way for Sunshine and Mike to renew their love for each other? Find out when the show starts this coming Monday at 11:30 AM.
“Wagas” started in 2013 on GMA News TV as a once a week anthology show. It has since won many awards as best drama anthology, both locally and abroad. Now, it’s transferred to GMA-7 and will feature entirely new love stories from Monday to Friday, for one month. “Throwback Pag-ibig” is directed by Adolf Alix Jr. who says that since “Wagas” is now a morning show, it will now get a new treatment.
“Hindi bagay ang sobrang heavy drama sa umaga so much lighter ang treatment namin dito,” he says. “Iba yung timpla at hindi mabigat sa dibdib for the viewers.”
“Mas natural lang ito,” adds Sunshine. “Sa ibang drama shows, ang lines, may pagka-melodramatic talaga. Dito, mas truthful sa tunay na buhay. Mas lovable and relatable ang iba’t ibang characters and yung ibang lines nga, nakakatawa pa.”
