MATTEO GUIDICELLI started it all. He got lots of publicity for his training as a soldier-scout ranger at Camp Tecson in San Miguel, Bulacan. He did this voluntarily, without preparing for any related project. Although he gained a lot of mileage from it, it has yet to be seen if it truly helped in boosting his career since he has no upcoming project in the horizon.
He’s touted to be replacing James Reid as the new Pedro Penduko, but there’s still no official confirmation. What he has up his sleeve is the acclaimed new Regal movie, “Mina Anud”, but since he’s playing the role of a high end drug dealer in the movie, totally in contradiction to his training as a scout ranger, he’s not seen promoting it at all, even if he’s getting rave reviews for his rollicking and persuasive performance.
DIngdong Dantes soon followed in the footsteps of Matteo when he had his similar military immersion training at the Philippine Army’s Special Forces School. This is in preparation for his role as a soldier in the coming local adaptation of the Korean hit, “Descendants of the Sun”, which they’ll start taping soon. With him were his co-stars in the show Rocco Nacino, Lucho Ayala, Paul Salas, Jon Lucas and Prince Clemente.
Now comes Gerald Anderson who had a three-day training also at Camp Tecson in Bulacan in preparation for his new action-drama series, “A Soldier’s Heart”, where they will the roles of Scout Rangers. He took the Soldier Skills Orientation Training along with his co-stars Nash Aguas, Jerome Ponce, Elmo Magalona and Yves Flores.
All their rigid training are properly chronicled in social media complete with photos of them looking all sweaty and tired while training. Well, let’s just hope all this would really help their respective shows in gaining more prospective viewers when they start running on the air.
