ENCHONG DEE attended two presscons last Thursday so we saw him twice on that day. For lunch, he was at the ABS-CBN Knowledge Channel 20th anniversary presscon as host of “Agricoolture”, which will be seen on Friday and Saturday at 4:30 PM this October. For dinner, he was at the presscon of “Circa”, the star-studded drama directed by Adolf Alix Jr. that’s an entry in the Pista ng Pelikulang Pilipino that starts airing on September 13.
Enchong is happy to be part of Knowledge Channel. “I grew up in Bicol watching their shows where I learned so much about our heroes and our culture,” he says. “I’m now happy to host ‘Agricoolture’ as I grew up in our farm in Naga and the show educates us about farming, livestock, poultry and even fish farming.”
They just shot an episode in some province and while swimming in a beach resort, he suddenly developed an allergy that made him feel itchy specially around his eyes. He found out that a mining company has polluted the waters.
“I was wondering kung bakit parang patay ang dagat, no corrals, no fish. We’re not even aware that mining companies are ruining our seas at buti na lang pinasara nila noon ng late Agriculture Secretary Gina Lopez. The people in the area were so affected by what happened so we’re going to tackle these issues in our show.”
Enchong feels fortunate to be part of the powerhouse cast of “Circa” where he plays the son of Gina Alajar, with Laurice Guillen and Elizabeth Oropesa as his aunts and Ricky Davao as his uncle. Anita Linda is his lola and Jaclyn Jose is Anita’s caregiver.
“Alam ko, lahat sila, award-winning actors, so I was initially intimidated. But as the shooting went on, napansin ko, parang natural lang na binabato nila ang kanilang mga linya, so I felt more relaxed at nakipagbatuhan na lang ako sa kanila.”
In “Circa”, Enchong plays a young filmmaker who grew up with his mom Gina Alajar in the States. He returns home to Manila to continue the legacy of filmmaking left by his Lola Atang, played by Anita Linda who’s a well known producers of the big studio era in the country. Enchong is one our most capable young actors today but he’s currently not doing any soap on ABS-CBN.
“But I’m doing movies. I’m glad to be part of ‘Circa’ and I’m also in a new movie, ‘Si Pepe at Si Pepito’, that will be entered in the Metro-Manila Filmfest, directed by Will Fredo.”
