SANYA LOPEZ impressed a lot of viewers for her very convincing portrayal of Mariel, the loving wife of Benjamin Alves as Eldon who makes an act of supreme sacrifice in the hit afternoon drama, “Dahil sa Pag-ibig”.

Just to be able to get blood money to help her husband be released from prison in Saudi Arabia, Sanya gave herself to her rich former suitor, Pancho Magno as Gary. But Eldon later cheats on her with Winwyn Marquez as Portia, leading to a lot of aggravating complications.

“And now, after a successful run of five months, our show is ending,” says Sanya. The show is ending this Friday afternoon showing some very tearful confrontations and action-packed showdowns. “Nakakalungkot dahil napamahal na rin sa akin ang character ko, si Mariel, isang matiising babae na natuto ring lumaban.”

What’s one insight she gained while playing Mariel? “Yung she really tried her best to fight back sa abot ng makakaya niya. But she also knows how to give in at sumuko kapag alam niyang may ibang mga masasaktan sa decisions niya. Sa buhay kasi, you should know how to value not just yourself but also other people.”

What would she like for audiences to remember best now that “Dahil sa Pag-ibig” is ending? “That life is full of trials and tribulations, especially ang isang marriage na marami talagang dinaraanang pagsubok. Ang importante, you should always bear in mind that through all the challenges, you should always remain true to yourself and stick to what is right.”

She wants to thank their director, Ricky Davao, for helping her interpret her role persuasively during its five-month run. “Ang laki ng naitulong niya sa akin for my performance to be effective. Also, I want to thank my co-stars na sina Benjamin, Winwyn and Pancho who all did their best.

"Nagtulong-tulong talaga kami para mas mapaganda ang show. May mga eksenang nagkasakitan kami ni Benjamin at ni Winwyn kasi hinihingi ng eksenang magkapisikalan talaga, but they took it all in good stride kahit napapalakas ang mga sampal at sabunot ko. I will miss them all.”

Sanya also feels lucky to be part of the tearjerking drama, “Isa Pang Bahaghari”, which she has finished shooting and has been submitted for consideration of the Metro Manila Filmfest screening committee.

“Sana, makapasok kami as an official entry,” she prays. “I’m so proud of this movie as it gave me the chance to work with respected actors like Nora Aunor and Phillip Salvador as my parents. Marami kaming madadramang eksena and I also want to thank our director, Joel Lamangan, kasi ang laking tulong niya sa’kin sa drama scenes ko.”

Those who’s seen the movie before it was submitted to the screening committee say Sanya is so good as Nora’s daughter who becomes a pokpok because of poverty and she has a good chance of winning the best supporting actress award.

“Naku, I don’t want to expect anything po but sana nga, magdilang anghel sila,” she laughs. “Basta yung nakasama ko lang ang mga mutli-award winning na artistang hinahangaan ko in this movie, along with Michael de Mesa, very happy na talaga ako.”
