ALLEN DIZON has just returned from Egypt where his movie, “Mindanao”, was a competition entry in the prestigious Cairo International Filmfest.
“I was with our director, Brillante Mendoza, and he got the award for best artistic contribution while Judy Ann Santos won as best actress,” he says. “Sayang nga, wala si Juday. She cannot leave kasi as she’s busy taping for her drama show.”
On December 11, Pampanga Day, Allen himself will get an honor as the Most Outstanding Kapampangan for the ARTS Category given by the Office of the Governor. A proud and full blooded Kapampangan from Sta. Ana, Pampanga.
He is chosen for his countless acting awards, including nine international best actor trophies he received from various countries like the A-List Warsaw International Film Festival and the Hanoi Filmfest.
A Gawad URIAN and Famas Best Actor awardee, he has also received many acting awards from legitimate academe based group such as Gawad Tanglaw, Gawad Pasado and Urduja Heritage Awards.
He has participated in countless other prestigious international film festivals like the Shanghai Int’l Film Festival, Dhaka Filmfest, Salento Filmfest, Silk Road Filmfest, Tallin Filmfest in Estonia, and San Sebastian Film Festival.
His contribution in promoting Kapampangan cinema cannot be ignored. He played a Pampango coffin maker in "Magkakabaung"; a blind sisig ( famous Kapampangan food) cook in "Persons of Interest" and a flagellant in “Area”.
In his next film "Latay (Battered Husband)", he takes his commitment to promote Kapampangan culture to another level by portraying a cross dresser in the annual Aguman Sanduk festival held in Minalin, Pampanga where men dress as women.
Allen is now taping ABS-CBN MMK’s pre xmas episode with Alessandra De Rossi. His film "Latay” with Lovi Poe is scheduled for showing in early 2020. He is also producing an iWant original series "Beauty Queens" under his ATD Entertainment Productions. What prompts him to turn into producing?
“Actually, marami nang na-produced ang company ko,” he says. “From stage plays to full length movies. But first time ko to produce a mini-series, itong ‘Beauty Queens’ nga for iWant with six episodes and stars real beauty pageant winners like Gloria Diaz, Winwyn Marquez and Maxine Medina, directed by Joel Lamangan.
"Maganda yung material, as written by Eric Ramos, kaya nagustuhan ko. This is about a family of beauty queens and the ups and downs in their lives. Abangan nyo as it will start streaming in iWant by late January.”
