KATE VALDEZ says she was so surprised when she was informed that she’ll be starring with Barbie Forteza and will be one of the title-rolers in GMA-7’s newest primetime show, “Anak ni Waray vs. Anak ni Biday”, which will start airing on Monday night, right after “24 Oras”.
“I couldn’t believe it kasi I’d be playing one of the lead roles,” she says. “Tapos, si Barbie pa ang kasama ko. Nang mag-sink in sa akin, I have nothing but gratitude in my heart. Kasi very big blessing ito at very big break din for me as my last role was as contravida in ‘Onanay’ na maraming viewers ang nagalit sa’kin dahil sa kamalditahan ng character ko.”
Her new show will hopefully now stop the rumors that GMA is peeved at her because she allegedly had an attitude problem while she was doing ‘Onanay’.
“I really don’t know kunsaan nanggaling ang tsismis na yun,” Kate says. “You can ask the people I work with in ‘Onanay’ and I was in good terms with them. So ngayon, heto, may bago na akong show, hopefully, matitigil na yang ganyang tsismis. Wala naman akong karapatang mag-attitude kasi baguhan pa lang ako so, bakit naman ako gagawa ng binibintang nila sa akin?”
She’s just thankful that her co-stars in “Anak ni Waray vs. Anak ni Biday” are all very nice to her. “Ms. DIna Bonnevie plays my mother, lola ko naman si Ms. Celia Rodriguez, and I really welcome the chance to work with them kasi napakababait nila. They’re so generous in sharing their wealth of experience in showbiz with a newcomer like me. Para nga akong kumukuha ng acting workshop sa kanila because of their valuable advice.”
She’s also grateful to Barbie who’s very friendly to her. “Mas senior siya sa’kin at ang dami na niyang nagawang shows na siya ang bida, pero wala siyang ere at all. She welcomed me warmly sa familiarity workshop pa lang namin.
"Then we got even closer nang magkasama kami shooting some of our scenes on location sa Tacloban in Leyte and in some towns in Ilocos. The show imparts important messages about family values dahil it will turn out na magkapatid pala kami rito ni Barbie sa ama. Nagpapasalamat talaga akong napasama ako sa ganito kalaki at kagandang show.”
It is said that she’s now chummy with a Kapuso actor, Manolo Pedrosa, who has been courting her ardently. How true?
“Friends kami ni Manolo kasi nagkasama kami sa isang movie last year, yung ‘Black Lipstick’, but as of now, I’m really so busy. Kasi aside from regular tapings sa bago naming show, I’m also busy with school. Nagtatapos ako ng high school sa Miriam College, so yan muna ang priorities ko ngayon, work and studies.”
