AOS director Miggy Tanchanco |
MIGGY TANCHANCO is the director of GMA-7’s new weekend noontime show, “All Out Sundays” or AOS. The son of popular choreographer Geleen Eugenio, he started as a member of the Universal Motion Dancers then he became a choreographer himself.
He later branched out to be a blocking director on stage for some musical variety shows of GMA.
“I took a leave of absence and formally studied film and TV directing at the Asia Pacific Film Institute of Ben Yalung,” he says. “Nang makatapos ako, I did a lot of short films, AVP’s and also music videos and TV commercials.
"Then I applied uli sa GMA and after a year, they called me and asked me to direct ‘Studio 7’, which ran for one year bago ginawa na ngang ‘All Out Sundays’ or simply, AOS.”
What’s the challenge in doing AOS compared to “Studio 7”? “Malaking pagkakaiba kasi ‘Studio 7’ is just one hour and 15 minutes in running time. Itong AOS is 2 hours and 30 minutes. Mas maraming segments. May musical portions, may games, may comedy skits.
"We want it to be really different, but for the whole family. So now, we’re still testing the waters, tinitingnan namin what would click with viewers. The show na sinundan namin, ‘Sunday Pinasaya’, is rating well, so big challenge din for us na tapatan or lampasan yun.”
Well, the good news is that the AGB Nielsen survey shows that the first telecast of AOS rated really well and edged out its competition. Miggy says his inspiration is his ninong, Al Quinn, a dancer who later became a top TV director of Nora Aunor’s “Superstar”. Now 38 years old, Miggy is married and has one kid, now 8 years old.
