PAOLO CONTIS gets a different kind of big break in GMA-7’s new weekend noontime show, “All Out Sundays” or AOS as he gets to show his talents as a singer and comedian in the comedy skit portion, “Tapsikret”.
He plays the owner of a “tapsilugan” who gets competition from a new restaurant owned by Glaiza de Castro. It turns out they used to be lovers but they broke up when Glaiza left him to try her luck abroad.
We’ve always wondered why Paolo was relegated to playing villain roles in TV soaps when he has the makings of a good leading man, as he has shown in his drama movie with Alessandra de Rossi, “Through Night and Day”, where he got nominated as best actor.
Paolo spent his Christmas and New Year with ladylove LJ Reyes and their kids in New York, visiting LJ’s mom who is based there. Their daughter, Summer Aryana, is celebrating her first birthday there last January 4, but he had to come back right away right after the first day of the year because of his participation in “All Out Sundays”.
“It’s kinda sad kasi first birthday niya, gusto sana namin ni LJ, magkakasama kaming lahat,” he says. “Kaya lang, dapat magsakripisyo rin kasi sayang naman itong trabaho ko sa ‘All Out Sundays’ na ngayon lang ako nabigyan ng chance na kumanta nang live.
"Nag-usap naman kami ni LJ even before I accepted this new show at naiintindihan naman niyang commitment ito, e. So we both decided na mauna na akong umuwi. Anyway, nag-celebrate na rin naman kami ng birthday ni Aryana noong January 1st and after that, lumipad na akong pabalik sa Pilipinas.”
So how is it being part of a live musical variety show like AOS? “Masaya. We do comedy nina Glaiza, Aicelle Santos, Betong Sumaya, Tekla, Boobay, Kakai Bautista at yung bagong discoveries sa Starstruck na sina Kim de Leon at Lexi Gonzales and so far, maganda ang samahan naming lahat.
"Nagkakasundo ang lahat kaya masaya kami. Yung iba, mga kasama ko na sa ‘Bubble Gang’ but, the difference, dito, may kantahan at sayawan kami, so bagong challenge ito para sa aming lahat at nage-enjoy naman kami.”
