SHARON CUNETA celebrated her birthday on January 6 and ABS-CBN hosted a birthday lunch for her. She also renewed her contract as a Kapamilya and will be a judge in the new season of ‘Your Face Sounds Familiar’.
She was so touched when her Kapamilya friends greeted her in a special video presentation, including Ogie Alcasid, Regine Velasquez, Aga Muhlach, Judy Ann Santos, Billy Crawford, Gary Valenciano, Sarah Geronimo and her two daughters Frankie and Miel Pangilinan.
Then Jed Madela appeared to sing to her live “Somewhere Down the Road”, followed by Nyoy Volante singing Side A’s “Forevermore”, then the former kiddie contestants of “Your Face” led by Xia Vigor and the TNT boys.
So it looks like her threat to slow down will not happen this year?
“You know, after I announced that I’m planning to semi-retire, nagdagsaan ang offers,” she says. “I now have offers for seven film projects. Tatlo lang siguro ang magagawa ko roon, two from Viva, one from Star and there’s also an offer from Regal. The first movie I’ll do will come as a total surprise, it’s a love story na medyo sexy, but I’m not yet at liberty to share the details.
"There’s also an offer from Tita Cory Vidanes to do a teleserye with ABS-CBN. In April, I will have a concert tour in Australia and let’s help them pray na matapos na yung bushfires sa kanila that are killing helpless animals like koalas and kangaroos.
''In May naman, I will do a North America tour with Regine Velasquez of our concert, ‘Iconic’, which I didn’t even know, kasi Aliw Awards didn’t invite me, nanalo pala ng best collaboration award sa kanila.”
At 54, has she ever resorted to cosmetic surgery to keep herself looking young? “I do thermage and ultherapy with Doc Ivi but I haven’t had any invasive procedure yet. I’ve had minimal botox. Ayoko naman ng sobra kasi I don’t want to lose my facial expressions. That’s all. But I notice yung lines around my eyes so baka yun, paayos ko kasi I had loose skin after I lost weight. I owe it naman kasi to my audience to look presentable, but hindi naman yung sobra. I still want to look my age.”
She was bashed when her eldest daughter KC didn’t show up at her birthday celebration in ASAP last Sunday and she posted a letter for KC on social media. She admitted she became emotional “because you, my eldest, weren’t there. I do not even have an idea where you are. I follow you on IG of course, but as your Mama I wish I didn’t have to find out where you are or what you’re doing at the same time as the public does.”
She adds: “I haven’t really known for years now what has been going on with you, in your life, in your heart. I would think that the first person you would talk to would be me, your Mama. I feel that you have distanced yourself from us who truly love you, when we all hunger for our family to be complete. We are six in the family, my baby. And when we are only five, I never feel complete."
She continues: "We missed you at Christmas lunch with the Pangilinans. We missed you on New Year’s Eve, on New Year’s Day, and I certainly missed you on my birthday. Where were you, anak? What were you doing? Why not even a text from you? I know you are in your 30s now and are free to do what you want. …
"Anak, huwag kang lumayo sa amin. Kiko has loved and raised you with me since you were 9. Each of your sisters, and your brother, Dad - and I - crave a relationship with you. Buhay ko ang mga anak ko. Kahit talikuran kayong lahat ng mundo, si Mama ang matitira. I love you very much, Kristina."
Some folks bashed her for freely expressing her feelings about KC. When asked about this at her birthday presscon, she says: “I know social media is not the right platform to express yourself when you are a public figure, but my daughter posted her explanation on social media and I just replied.
"It all boils down to nanay ako na nag-aalala kasi I don’t know what she is going through. I’m just a concerned mother worrying about my daughter as I don’t even know where she is. But I’m amazed at how some people responded to me. Meron talagang sobrang bastos so I just blocked them. Nagko-comment ng kilometric kahit hindi nila alam kung ano ang puno’t dulo ng nangyayari sa’min ng anak ko.
"I don’t even know them, so I don’t want to go down to their level. Hindi ko sinisiraan ang anak ko. I’m just missing my daughter and I just want to know how she is. Ang feeling nila, masasaktan nila ako, but 42 na years na ako in showbiz and I don’t really get affected anymore.
"What I feel is naaawa ako sa kanila kasi mukhang hindi sila naturuan ng mga magulang nila nang tama. But I don’t have any grudges. I still believe that there is always some good in any person.”
As a parent, we can understand where Sharon is coming from. So here’s praying that she will eventually be able to iron out all the current kinks in her relationship with KC who’s now being linked to Apple de Ap.
She also has a special message for Pres. Digong Duterte: "I pray that our dear Pres. Duterte will reconsider his decision about ABS-CBN's franchise renewal in March. There are thousands of people who have grown up here, learned the ropes here, who I consider my family, good friends, who will lose everything they built over the years if the franchise will not be renewed."
