JIN MACAPAGAL first joined the Pinoy Boyband Superstar contest in 2016 when he was 19 years old, but he wasn’t lucky enough to make it.
He then joined the Ultimate Bidaman search conducted by ABS-CBN in “Showtime” and emerged as the winner. But since then, the movies he has made so far are not with them.
He was officially introduced in “Damaso”, a musical partly based on ‘Noli Me Tangere’ where he got to sing, but it didn’t do well at the tills.
He has now completed his second movie, “Us Again”, this time for Regal Entertainment, where he gets to co-star with Jane Oineza, RK Bagatsing and Regal’s newest discovery, Sarah Edwards.
“I’m really thankful to Ms. Roselle Monteverde for getting me to be part of this great love drama,” he says. “It was nice to be given the chance to work with seasoned actors like Jane and RK, na parehong very generous kaya marami akong natutuhan sa kanila.”
Roselle says Jin is good and a very promising actor, so she’s eyeing him to do more projects with Regal. Jin was discovered in a dance competition in Cebu where his mom hails from. His dad is an Overseas Filipino Worker.
“I was very shy then, walang masyadong confidence sa sarili. I was taking up physical therapy in college. Nahinto nang sumali ako sa Pinoy Boyband Superstar. When I lost, I went back to Cebu and resumed my studies.
"I did modeling jobs in Cebu then pinasali naman ako ng team ko sa Ultimate Bidaman and ayun, sinuwerte ako. I want to thank Jane Oineza kasi siya ang naging kapareha ko sa Bidaman finals in the acting contest na Matinee Matibay. Nadala ako ng husay niya kaya napa-acting din ako nang husto.”
Jin doesn’t hide the fact that he has a girlfriend in Cebu. He was advised not to reveal this but he says he’s proud of his sweetheart.
“Kung yung iba, itinatago, ako, ayoko. Maski noong sumali pa lang ako sa ‘Showtime’, sinabi ko nang may girlfriend na ako. I just want to be honest. Wala naman sigurong masama kung magpapakatotoo ka.
"Sabi nila, baka makaapekto sa career ko, but I don’t think so. Marami namang artista ngayong may jowa na non-showbiz, so what’s the point in hiding the truth? If I’d lie about her, alam ko, masasaktan siya and I don’t wanna do that.”
