CARLA ABELLANA is very honest in admitting that she’s just waiting for BF Tom Rodriguez to propose to her as she’s now really willing to settle down since she’s in her early 30s and her biological clock is ticking.
“Yes, we’re not getting any younger and people keep on asking us kung kailan ang wedding namin,” she says. “Parang mas excited pa sila amin, but what can I say? Hindi pa naman nagpo-propose si Tom sa akin. So, maghintay na lang tayo.”
Actually, they just had a wedding, but this is in their new TV soap, “Love of My Life”, where they are now husband and wife in their roles as Stefano and Adelle, even if Tom’s mom, Coney Reyes as Isabella, is against the match because her relationship with Carla started on the wrong foot.
They even have a bedscene where they are shown planning about their future life together after their lovemaking.
Carla is so happy because “Love of My Life” is doing really well in the ratings game. Among the new shows that just started on the Kapuso channel, it’s the one that is doing very well in the surveys and clobbering its competitor in the ratings.
“Lahat kami sa show, we’re all thankful that nagustuhan agad ng viewing public ang ‘Love of My Life’ at consistent ang aming high viewership, so thank you po sa lahat ng sumusuporta sa amin gabi-gabi,” Carla adds.
But soon after her glorious wedding in the show, something sad and tragic happens to them as a young couple when Tom suddenly gets terribly sick. Last week, the show became much more engrossing as Coney aka Isabella has already discovered that her son Tom aka Stefano is sick after he took some very strong pain relievers to help combat the pain he’s experiencing due to pancreatic cancer.
She then investigates and learns the truth about his illness from their family doctor. But naturally, she's so devastated.
The acting of Tom and Coney in that scene where Tom finally confesses to his mom that he has a terminal illness is truly splendid and the whole scene is a real emotional tearjerker.
The comments of viewers on social media are all superlative: “Sobrang nakakaiyak! Tumatagos sa puso!” “Very affecting kasi ang gagaling nilang lahat. Coney, Tom and Carla. They’re all very good in their respective roles and in their crying scenes. So very real!”
The show is now on its third week and there’ll be more aggravating developments with the entry of Rhian Ramos as Kelly, Tom’s previous sweetheart with whom he has another son, and Mikael Daez as Nikolai, Coney’s long lost and rebellious prodigal son. Don’t miss their grand entrance as they will make life even more complicated for all the other characters in the show.
In real life, it’s common knowledge that it’s not Tom who got sick but Carla. How did Tom feel when Carla experienced some serious health issues last year?
“Siempre, sobrang nag-alala ako, but I really admire her when she admitted to the public that she had tachycardia, hypothyroidism and wrong diagnosis that nearly damaged her liver,” he says. “She helps bridge the gap with other people who might have the same kind of ailments and feel so alone.
"They know now na hindi lang sila ang mayroon nito and they can get the right kind of treatment. She serves as an inspiration to other sick people and we’re so happy she’s now over that and, even the excess weight she gained before due to steroids, she has lost them na and she’s now back to her ideal weight.
"I really admire for having such great courage when she went through that health crisis. I told her naman I will just always be here for her to lean on.”
