DINA BONNEVIE is delighted to be back on primetime in GMA-7’s hit show after “24 Oras”, “Anak ni Waray vs. Anak ni Biday”, where she plays Sussie, the Ilocana mother of Kate Valdez.
“I really asked for this role kasi my husband DV Savellano is the congressman of Ilocos Sur at adopted daughter na ako ng Ilocos,” she says. “I’m sure this will be a way for me to help Ilocos kasi may scenes nakinunan talaga roon. Marunong na nga akong mag-Ilocano at noong election campaign, nag-speech ako at kumanta in Ilocano.
"I also like doing the show kasi reunion namin ito ni Snooky Serna who plays my mortal enemy na si Biday. Drama-comedy ang show. Magkaibigan kami ni Snooky na naging magkaaway because of one man, si Jay Manalo. Anak ko si Kate at anak naman niya si Barbie Forteza.
"Matagal na rin akong hindi nakagawa ng comedy kaya yung comic scenes dito, ako mismo ang gumawa, like sa scene na itinulak ako ni Snooky sa basurahan. Dapat, may double ako roon. E kaso nakita, mashoba yung double, e pumayat na nga ako so sabi ko, ako na lang mismo ang gagawa niyan.
"Akala ko naman, props lang yung basurang babagsakan ko. E, may nakapa ako, yuck! Tawa nang tawa si Snooky. E, dapat, serious ang eksena so sabi, Cookie, ano ba? Dapat galit ka sa’kin dito, tapos tawa ka nang tawa.”
Eventually, their characters will become friends and Dina says she can relate with this as it happened to her in real life. She’s referring to Coney Reyes whose son, Vico, is also sired by her ex-husband, Vic Sotto, with whom she has two kids, Danica and Oyo, who now both have families of their own.
“Talaga ngang time heals all wounds kasi naging magkaibigan din kami at siya ang dahilan kaya ako naging Christian. God is really good in healing yoiur heart and also, relationships. I admire Coney and the way she raised her very smart son. I’m very happy for her and her devotion to the Lord.”
Dina is known for being fearless but she has since mellowed down. “Kalmado na lang ako ngayon. Pangit kasi ang may kaaway. E, ako pa naman, I’m so transparent, di ba? So now, I try to get along fine with everybody.”
She once reprimanded a young actress who’s “nag-iinarte” in a soap they did before. How about her young co-stars now, Barbie Forteza and Kate Valdez? “Ah, okay naman sila. Both very professional at marespeto sa co-stars nila. We all get along fine sa set ng ‘Anak ni Waray vs. Anak ni Biday’, along with Celia Rodriguez who plays my mom.”
Does she see herself going into politics like her husband?
“No. I never dreamt to go into that, although now, it’s also my world kasi I’m married to a congressman and I talk to his constituents, help them with livelihood projects. Kasama niya si Ate Vi sa congressman at sabi ni Ate Vi sa’kin, tumakbo na rin daw ako dahil tiyak na kaya ko rin naman.
"Para maging classmate daw kami sa congress. But hindi ko ma-imagine ang sarili kong nangangampanya saying ‘iboto nyo ko.’ Tama na yung husband ko at nasa likod na lang niya ako. But we never know kung ano ang plano ni God for us, so I will just leave it up to Him kung ano ang purpose Niya for me.”
