ROCCO NACINO is honored to be chosen as Diego, also known as Wolf, a member of Dingdong Dantes’ elite Alpha Team in “Descendants of the Sun” that starts airing on Monday night to replace “The Gift”.
“This is such a big project na ginastusan talaga ng GMA and it feels great to be a part of its powerhouse cast,” he says. “Sabi nila, kamukha ko raw yung Korean actor who played Wolf, si Jin Goo, and I hope I give justice to the role.
"But it’s great to be working with a dedicated lead actor like Dingdong Dantes. He’s amazing when it comes to his drive and dedication to his craft. He serves as an inspiration for all of us na mga kasama niya sa Alpha Team.”
He and Dingdong, along with the other actors who plays soldiers in the show like Lucho Ayala, Prince Clemente, Jon Lucas and Paul Salas, underwent the very rigid military training under the Special Action Force or SAF of the Armed Forces of the Philippines.
A special video coverage of the hardships they went through was shown to the press and it’s really not a joke or a picnic.
“Buwis buhay talaga ang mga pinagawa sa amin,” adds Rocco. “Grabe sa hirap. Masuka-suka kami sa sobrang pagod kasi wala kaming tulog magdamag. 3 AM ang call time namin and we did 21 exercises, including running for 10 kilometers na may buhat kaming sako na may lamang mga bato.
"Gusto ko na ngang sumuko dahil sa hirap, pero kahiyaan na, pero dahil sa naging training namin, nabuo nang husto ang friendship ng mga miembro ng Alpha Team at naging solid kami on and even off cam.”
Because of this military training, he was encouraged to take the Basic Civilian’s Military Training under the Philippines Navy and he is now a full fledged reservist soldier.
In “Descendants of the Sun”, he’s paired with Jasmine Curtis Smith who plays Captain Moira, his former girlfriend who he broke up with upon the orders of her own father, a general, played by Ricardo Cepeda.
“First time namin to be paired ni Jas and she’s an amazing actress. Nagkatrabaho kami before sa ‘Pamilya Roces’, but si Carla Abellana ang kapareha ko roon.
"Jas is a true professional and I want to thank her for being so generous when we do our scenes together. Ang sarap humugot nang malalim na emotions kapag siya ang kasama mo sa mga dramatic scenes.”
He’s delighted that people seem to like them being paired in “Descendants”.
“I’m so amazed that after the trailer of ‘Descendants’ was shown, very positive ang feedback sa tambalan namin ni Jas sa social media, with people saying na maganda ang chemistry namin on screen at very effective ang acting namin in our confrontation scene.
"Nakakatuwa naman kasi trailer pa lang yung napanood nila. Wait till they see the full teleserye where our love story ng characters namin ni Jas unfolds in full and I’m sure that they will like it even more.”
Doesn’t his non-showbiz girlfriend, athlete Melissa Gohing, get jealous with the romantic scenes he did with Jasmine?
“No, not at all. Very supportive siya kasi alam naman niiyang trabaho lang ito. Siya pang nagsasabi na cute daw kaming panoorin ni Jas together on screen, so okay lang yun sa kanya.”
