JAK ROBERTO is staying home during the lockdown but he is in constant communication with GF Barbie Forteza through video chat.
“Thanks to today’s modern technology at nagagawa pa naming magturuan ng pagluluto ng iba’t ibang dishes, like chicken adobo and beef salpicao, kahit magkalayo kami sa isa’t isa,” he says.
They’ve been on for more than two years and he says theirs was not a case of instant attraction with each other.
“Nagkasama kami sa movie na ‘Laut’ ni Direk Louie Ignacio and we played young Badjaos na ipinakasal ng mga magulang namin sa isa’t isa,” he says. “I was an irresponsible husband at siya pang nagtatrabaho for our family.
"Pero wala pang spark between us then. Not until we did yung romcom na ‘Meant to Be’, doon kami naging mas close as friends.”
Jak doesn’t hide the fact that he comes from humble beginnings.
He first tried to make it in showbiz by joining male beauty pageants, then he applied with Kuya Germs and became a part of ‘Walang Tulugan’ before getting bit roles in various GMA shows and being part of a singing trio of newcomers, until he became known as the Pambansang Abs because of his good physique.
So what keeps him busy now that we’re on lockdown?
“Siempre, una sa lahat, I work out everyday to be physically fit. Then I do materials for my own youtube channel kunsaan may vlog kami ni Barbie. I myself do the editing.
"Marami rin kaming alagang aso ng sister kong si Sanya (Lopez), about ten dogs to keep us company. When I’m not busy, I watch movies sa streaming channels and also read books.”
What does he miss the most during this lockdown?
“Siempre, yung physical presence ni Barbie, kasi online lang kami nagkikita as of now dahil we both just stay home. Iba pa rin yung nakakalabas kami like before, to eat out, watch movies. Then yung work namin, naapektuhan ng lockdown.
"Hindi ako nakakapag-tape for ‘Bubble Gang’ at all. I miss yung mga katrabaho ko sa show, including the production staff, kasi maganda ang samahan naming lahat. But Barbie and I, you can still watch us now on primetime, kasi pinapalabas uli ngayon weeknights ang ‘Meant to Be’.”
Whar more can he say about the lockdown?
“I think we should just all cooperate with the government kasi it’s doing naman its best to flatten the curve. On our end, we should do our part, like constant washing of hands to make sure you’re clean and wearing a mask if you’re going out to buy food or something. We should also practice social distancing.”
What’s the first thing he’ll do once the lockdown is lifted?
“Una sa lahat, pray and thank the Lord for protecting us. I will also thank all the frontliners who did their job unselfishly in fighting the virus and helping those afflicted with it. Then I’ll go to Barbie para magkita na kami uli nang live and in person.
"And I will be ready to face the new normal with a positive mindset kasi siempre, kahit wala nang quarantine, nandiyan pa rin ang danger ng virus kasi hindi pa naman natutuklasan ang antidote or vaccine na panlaban dito.”
