JANINE AND ENCHONG DEE: BOTH AGAINST THE ANTI-TERRORISM BILL |
JANINE GUTIERREZ joined showbiz only after she got a college degree from Ateneo, so it’s not surprising that she’s one star who thinks smart and is quite articulate. She’s not afraid of expressing her opinion and she just posted her feelings about the ongoing race riots in America and Duterte’s determination to push the anti-terrorism bill in congress.
She wrote: “No one is free when others are oppressed, #BLACKLIVESMATTER #JUNKTERRORISMBILL NOW! Hi everyone. I hope you’re all staying safe on this first day of GCQ. I know there’s a lot of alarming things going on right now and everyone’s priority is health and livelihood.
"Apart from these, there are also a lot of developments in our country and around the world and it’s important to stay informed. I asked in a poll yesterday if you’ve heard of the Anti-Terrorism Bill in the Philippines and about half haven’t, so as a small community here, I’m sharing what I’ve gathered from other sources.
“There’s a highlight on my page about the bill and if you have any information to share, about this or any other current events in our bayanihan efforts, let me know too! We can help each other understand the things going on around us and look out for each other and our future in the process.”
Janine even commented on Ate Vi's statement that she voted for the anti-terror vill but With Reservations. She wrote: "Kung yes with reservations ang nararamdaman mo, hindi ba dapat mag-no ka na lang hanggang masolusyonan o matanggal ang mga bagay na ikinababahala mo?"
Of course, she was bashed because of this, even if she does have a valid point there. But knowing how outspoken she is, she couldn't care less what they about her as long as she has freely expresessed her strong feelings about the matter.
But naturally, some folks are against her views but others show their support of her. As one appreciative netizen wrote: “Thank you for bringing this issue to a wider audience for a more rigorous public debate. That’s what we really need.”
Other celebrities who express disapproval of the Anti-Terrorism Bill are Solenn Heussaff, Nadine Lustre, Enchong Dee, Agot Isidro, Bibeth Orteza, Isabelle Daza and former Miss Universes Pia Wurztbach and Catriona Gray.
The provisions they dislike the most about the bill include warrentless arrest, extensive surveillance, just joining a rally or posting online what they think is terroristic can be enough reason for anyone to be summarily arrested.
No doubt, this can be easily abused by unscrupulous and power-hungry government people who just want to perpetuate their stay in their positions. They just do not want to have any opposition whatsoever.
