SINCE KIM DOMINGO has decided to shun sexy roles, GMA Network is now introducing a new batch of luscious and sensuous Kapuso stars led by the daughters of two actors. These are Angela Alarcon and Claire Castro.
Angela is one of the three daughters of Seiko star Jestoni Alarcon and his non-showbiz wife Lizette, while Claire is the daughter of former Viva stars Diego Castro and ex-wife Raven Villanueva, and also the granddaughter of the late TV personalities June Keithley and Angelo Castro.
They were introduced in the GMA Artist Center online show, ‘Girls of Summer’, and did a sexy pictorial along with other hot new stars: Faye Lorenzo, Anna Vicente and Liezel Lopez.
Angela has finished college and has a degree in communications, graduating as cum laude from UP. She says it’s her dad who inspired her to try acting.
“I admire a lot of actors and seeing them on screen inspired me to give acting a try,” she says. “It can be scary as everyone watches you with high expectations, but this pushes me all the more to come out of my comfort zone and be the best version of myself to achieve my goals in life.”
What can Jestoni, who did a lot sexy action roles in his prime, say about this? “Natuwa ako dahil she finished college muna before she joined showbiz,” says Jestoni. “Timing naman na right after graduation niya, kinuha siya ng GMA Artist Center, so I’m happy for her kasi happy siya rito at ito talaga ang gusto niya.”
Angela got her dad’s height and some quarters are encouraging her to also join a beauty pageant but she says she’s more focused on being a good actress. Claire says it’s also her parents who inspired her to go into showbiz. Diego and Raven did a lot of movies and TV shows as part of Viva’s stable of young stars in the 90s.
“I grew up exposed to showbusiness at alam ko yung shows ng parents ko as teen stars like ‘Gimik’ and ‘TGIS’ kaya while I was growing up, pinangarap ko na ring sumunod sa yapak nila,” says Claire.
As for Faye Lorenzo, she got her break doing comedy in “Bubble Gang” and one of her sketches, ‘Shoplifter’, got millions of views and is considered as the most viewed gag clip of ‘Bubble Gang’ on youtube.
She doesn’t mind being identified as a sexy comediennce but she also wants to try doing kontrabida roles in a teleserye. “Kasi kilala akong masayahin as a comedian, so gusto ko namang ipakita yung side ko na kaya ko ring umacting na nagmamaldita ako,” she adds.
Liezel Lopez was discovered when she joined Starstruck and she is now a mainstay in "Bubble Gang". She has done supporting roles in some teleseryes and her goal in life is to be able to give her parents a house and lot of their own.
Anna Vicente has a degree in international hospitality management and has actually worked as hotelier before joining GMA Artist Center. Her dream role is to play a lesbian. "Kasi sobrang layo noon sa totoong ako as I'm too girlie-girlies in person," she says.
