DINGDONG DANTES is psyching himself up to be emotionally prepared when he is separated from wife Marian and their two kids, Zia and Ziggy, during the two-week locked in work of “Descendants of the Sun” whose taping will resume this September.
“I’m actually anticipating it, yung lungkot na mahiwalay ka sa pamilya mo, malupit na challenge yun, but it’s something we need to do,” he says in an online interview for the 15th anniversary of GMA Pinoy TV.
“We’ll return to taping para tapusin namin ang mga eksenang hindi natapos sa ‘Descendants of the Sun’ para naman mapanood ng mga Kapuso natin here and abroad ang kabuuan nito. We owe it to them.”
He says that after the two-week taping, he would have to go into self-quarantine for a couple of days more to make sure he is truly safe before he returns to his family.
“Kailangang i-test muna ako uli para siguraduhin na hindi ako magiging carrier ng virus sa loob ng bahay namin,” he adds.
“Mahirap talaga, pero kakayanin natin yan. Naiintindihan naman lahat ng wife ko ang sitwasyon namin and I trust her kasi hands on mom siya to our two kids.”
Will they be able to tape all the remaining difficult scenes in ‘Descendants of the Sun’?
“There will be big challenges but we’re in a creative industry so I’m confident we can think of things on how to solve any problems in production that might come our way.
"The production has already factored in all the possibility limitations dahil sa safety protocols required by the pandemic situation so, creativity-wise, hindi naman siguro ito maaapektuhan.
"We’ll still deliver first rate entertainment to our viewers na mine-message akong matagal na sila nabitin sa panonood ng ‘Descendants of the Sun’.
"Inspite of the numerous health and safety guideline that we have to follow, hindi namin sila bibiguin. Hitik pa rin sa drama, romance, action scenes and special effects ang aming show.”
Dingdong says he really missed playing the role of Captain Lucas Manalo or Big Boss in the show, with Jennylyn Mercado as his leading lady in the role of Dr. Maxine or Beauty.
