the BLESSED VIRGIN MARY has many apparitions. one of them in Fatima, a town in Portugal, in 1917, a year before 1918 when WWI ended and the flu pandemic also happened, killing two of the children who witnessed the Virgin's apparition in Fatima.
A new movie is now available on Amazon, FATIMA, made by Marco Pontecorvo, son Gillo Pontecorvo who made the classic BATTLE OF ALGIERS.
For Catholics, it's apt to watch the movie as Mama Mary celebrates her birthday this September 8. But for non-Catholics, the wouldn't care as they don't give that much importance to the mother of Jesus.
The movie is well made and beautifully acted.
This has actually been filmed by Hollywood before as "The Miracle of the Lady of Fatima" in 1952. But the current version is so different from the first one.
The new version is framed by an interview with the main visionary herself, Sister Lucia herself (as played by Sonia Braga, the Brazilian actress best known for "Kiss of the Spider Woman') and Harvey Keitel as a skeptical religion professor.
The film is quite a compelling dramatization of the events in Fatima. If you take your Catholic faith seriously, check it out.
