TONY LABRUSCA cannot be blamed for playing it safe.
He earlier wrote something in his social media account making a concrete denial that he is having a romance with new actor JC Alcantara, his love interest in the Boys Love iWant series “Hello Stranger”.
There was a backlash since some gullible fans of their love team seem to want their romance to be not just on cam but also off cam.
We can understand Tony’s stance since it would not be wise for a still relatively new actor to be branded as gay early in his career.
We’re sure there are many gay fans of the so-called BL series, but we’re even more sure that he will make it bigger with regular fans of both male and female sexes since there are a lot more heterosexual viewers than gay ones. Can you follow what we’re saying about this matter?
This is one reason why Kokoy de Santos of the bigger BL hit, “Gameboys”, should also eventually distance himself from his love team with Elijah Canlas. Between them, he is the one who gained a lot more fans and this is evident in social media where he suddenly developed so many fans club, like the very active KokoyNation, KokoyGlobal and Kolokoys.
Yes, his Elikoy love team with Elijah has a lot of fans now, but he would surely last longer in his popularity if he could also do heterosexual materials and be romantically paired with female partners, not just gay ones. He would have to be very careful with his next moves.
Going back to Tony Labrusca, we’re not surprised he’s now having second thoughts about cultivating a love team with JC Alcantara because as it is, he’s already being talked about as a closet gay.
When he had a controversial altercation at the airport then, he was coming home from abroad with Alex Diaz, who later admitted he’s bisexual and is now doing his own BL series. This fanned the rumors that he’s gay all the more.
Maybe he should have not done the BL series anymore as it only added more fuel into the fire.
In his latest vlog entry, Tony expressed his feelings about this unending gay rumors about him: “The thing is I get frustrated when people focus on my sexuality. It makes me feel like no amount of work or accomplishment that I’ve done matters.
I feel it gets undermined. Because people wanna focus on my sexuality, instead of my capability. So that’s where my frustration comes in. I don’t mind people assuming this about me. (Which obviously, is not true, because how come he’s now explaining himself?)
"At the end of the day, whether people like it or not, whether it comes to who you’re dating, the truth is always behind closed doors. I love it when people make this type of assumptions about me, because it means people are intrigued by me. But for me, I don’t identify myself as homosexual. But I don’t think that matters anymore.
"Even if I said I wasn’t gay, the people who think I am gay are going to keep on believing that I’m gay. There is nothing I can do that would change their mind, because they think that I dated this person, or they think that I had sex with this person, because this tabloid said that. So that’s out of my control, you know what I mean?”

But honestly, we think he should just have followed in the footsteps of Piolo Pascual, who’s also accused of being gay but opted to keep his mouth totally shut even after the scandalous allegations of BB Gandanghari against him.
As they say, silent waters run deep. Tony should just have let keep the public guessing, rather than do what he is doing now, which is mightily explaining himself like a “palengkera” who is so defensive.
