EVERYONE agrees that the passing year is a traumatic one, what with the pandemic disrupting our lives. Here in the Philippines, 2020 is book ended by the eruption of Taal on January 12 and two killer storms towards the end of the year, Ulysses and Vicky, plus an earthquake right on Christmas Day.
We can only pray that 2021 will be a better and safer one for all of us.
Now, let us take one last look at what happened in 2020. Let’s start with romance in showbiz.
There were lots of weddings this year, led by Megan Young and Mikael Daez who had two weddings, a quiet one with only relatives in Caleruega and another one with a bigger reception where they invited about 100 people in Subic.
Others who tied the knot are theatre-movie actress Joanna Ampil with production design Faust Jose. Sheena Halili and non showbiz groom Jeron Manzanero. Singers KZ Tandingan and TJ Monterde. "Unang Hirit" hosts Juancho Trivino and Joyce Pring. Bettina Carlos and non showbiz groom Mikki Eduardo. Roxanne Barcelo and foreigner husband whose name she didn't even mention.
Charee Pineda and non-showbiz groom Martell Soledad. Matteo Guidicelli and Sarah Geronimo. Singer Jay R and Mica Javier. Ina Feleo and Italian boyfriend Giacomo Gervasutti.
Richard Gutierrez and Sarah Lahbati were supposed to have a grand wedding but they had to shelve it because of the pandemic and they just opted to have a simpler one with family members instead.
Angel Locsin and producer fiance Neil Arce were supposed to tie the knot last November but they postponed their wedding for next year due to the pandemic.
Those who officially got engaged this year include Luis Manzano and Jessy Mendiola, Morisette Amon and Dave Lamar, Kris Bernal and businessman Perry Choi, Rocco Nacino and volleyball player Melissa Gohing, Andi Eigenmann and surfer partner Philmar Alipayo, and Glaiza de Castro and Irish boyfriend David Rainey.
Lovi Poe remains lovey dovey in her long distance relationship with U.S-based British boyfriend Montgromery Blencowe, but they’re not officially engaged yet.
Of course, if there were couples who got engaged, there are also those who chose to break up.
First is James Reid and Nadine Lustre, who both also left the company that built them up successfully, Viva Entertainment. Both of them have not been active this year and Viva later sued Nadine for breach of contract.
Another couple who broke up is Derek Ramsay and Andrea Torres, which surprised everyone as they were so sweet and people thought they’re already headed for the altar.
Former child actor Buboy Villar also admitted he has called it quits with his American partner with whom he has two kids.
The year’s breakups include Yam Concepcion and U.S. based boyfriend Miguel Cu-Unjieng, and Rhian Ramos and Israeli boyfriend Amit Borsok.
