KYLE VELINO is a Star Magic artist who got his big break playing the role of Terrence in the BL show, “Gameboys”, which became a big hit online and also on Netflix.
As Kokoy de Santos’ former boylet who got Elijah Canlas jealous, Kyle even won the best supporting actor plum in the Pinoy Boys Love Awards.
“I’m thankful to IdeaFirst Company for getting me to be a part of that show which turned to be a big success,” he says.
“I really feel super blessed to be in this trendsetting show that has influenced a lot of people. I’m also thankful to the viewers and the fans who supported us kaya napunta pa kami sa Netflix.”
Kyle will also be part of the show’s Season 2, but before that, he is now doing lock in taping for the TV drama series, “Paano ang Pangako?”, in San Pablo City. This is aired on TV5, Monday to Friday, at 9 PM.
“I’m also very grateful na napasama ako sa ‘Paano ang Pangako?’ which gave me another chance to experience working with seasoned and respected actors in the industry like Ms. Bing Loyzaga, Ms. Maricel Laxa, Tito Ricky Davao at marami pang iba,” he adds.
“Sobrang mababait silang lahat to a newcomer like me and always ready to extend a helping hand in doing our scenes together, so I’m really learning a lot from them, lalo from Tita Bing who’s very kind.”
So how is it working with Elijah again after “Gameboys”? “Yes, magkasama kami rito. I play Drake and karibal ko rito si Elijah Canlas over a lot things, including Miles Ocampo as Isabel, with whom we figure in a love triangle. Kaya abangan nyo ang maraming confrontation scenes namin dito ni Elijah.”
He has also gotten to know Elijah better while taping “Paano ang Pangako”.
“Sa ‘Gameboys’ kasi, hindi kami nagkita in person dahil lahat ng interaction namin was online lang. But now, dahil on lock in taping kami sa San Pablo, mas maganda ang naging bonding namin at ng buong cast.
"During our rest days, we even get to play badminton for exercise, kaya lalo kaming nagiging close na lahat sa isa’t isa while we’re all together on the set.”
Isn’t he afraid he might be typecast in villain roles?
“No, Im just thankful na may ganun akong role. Ine-embrace ko ang pagiging kontrabida. Sobrang gandang experience.
"Iba ang viewers nito kaya andami na namang galit sa’kin because of ‘Paano ang Pangako’. Sabi ko, late na kayo, kasi sa ‘Gameboys’ pa lang, marami ng galit sa’kin.
"But ang fans ng ‘Gameboys’, very supportive sila sa ‘Paano ang Pangako?’ Bago naman ito dahil babae ang pinag-aagawan namin ni Elijah this time.”
He is praised lavishly by Direk Perci who directs the show’s second unit.
“I love to do scenes of the kontrabida, yung maraming eksena ng tarayan,” says Direk Perci. “Si Kyle, he really works hard.
"He may be a villain on screen, but he’s one of the nicest guys in showbiz. Magaling ang atake niya sa role ng Drake. Tinotodo niya ang pagiging kontrabida.”
“Thanks kay Direk Perci,” says Kyle. “I won’t be here kung hindi niya ako pinagtiwalaan. Magical ang pagkakapasok ko sa ‘Gameboys’ kasi from out of nowhere kinuha nila ako at dun talaga ako nakilala nang husto.
"I’m still with Star Magic, but I’m glad to be part of the Ideafirst family. I can never forget ‘Gameboys’ kasi pamilya talaga ang turingan ng lahat, solid ang samahan at aalagaan ka nila talaga. Another level of learning din ito for me. Pangarap ko talaga ever since na makasama ako sa ganitong soap na pampamilya.”
