CASSY LEGASPI tries acting for the first time in GMA-7’s new show, “First Yaya”. So how is it so far?
“I started with TV commercials, then musical variety shows,” she says. “Sa first acting job ko, akala ko it’s just more of the same, but hindi pala. Mas nakakapagod siya, hindi na basta sayaw-sayaw, but so different, as you have to memorize lines, may emotions involved.
"At first, I was nervous but my parents told me it’s normal, but also useless to be nervous as it will just affect your acting. I’m here to perform and have fun, so why would i be nervous? Now, I’m more relaxed when I act. It’s so much fun. I’m also tired but I enjoy it all.”
What’s her role?
“I play Nina, the eldest of three kids of Gabby Concepcion,” she says. “Wala na kaming mother and I feel like I’m a neglected child of my dad, so I focus all my attention to my two younger siblings.
"Nina and me are very different. At first, I said, how am i gonna do this? She’s so not me. Hindi naman ako neglected child, thank God.
"But she just wants to be noticed by her dad and she fills the void with her siblings, Nicole and Nathan, as I don’t want my siblings to feel neglected kasi nga we don’t have a mom.”
She’s paired with Joaquin Domagoso, the son of Mayor Isko Moreno, and it’s obvious they’re being built up as a young love team. So what’s her first impression of him?
“I first met him sa Studio 7 pa. When I saw him, sabi ko, who’s this guy? There’s something interesting about him.
"Someone said baka ma-pair kayo in the future. We had mutual friends pala. When I got to know him more, I found out he’s more than what meets the eye. He’s a deep thinking person and can be serious when he wants to be serious.”
So how is it working with him?
“Well, they say may kemistri itong dalawa. When we did our scenes together, I get kilig. When we get kilig, it’s so real. Even the crew, kinikilig. Now, we’re so comfortable talaga with each other.
"JD is always happy on the set, he talks to everyone. He always checks up on me kung kumain na ba ako o pagod na ako. We’re having fun.”
She’s never been in a relationship. What’s the advice of her parents about this?
“Sabi nila, just to have fun, mag-friends lang muna. Huwag seryosohin ang love team. Whatever happens, happens.”
How is it working with Sanya Lopez who plays the “First Yaya”?
“Kami ni Sanya, nag-click agad. After the usual hi-hello, we became superclose. Even on the set, our emotions toward each sobrang totoo. We are always together. She’s a very talented actress, humble, down to earth, very professional, very caring, all the compliments, nasa kanya na.”
How is it doing lock in taping?
“Sa lock in taping, we feel safe kasi everyone follows health protocols. As an artist naman, hindi nawawala yung character mo sa isip mo. Mas focused ako sa work, so i’m happy na my very first taping is lock in.
"You also get to bond well with your co-actors. Mas maganda ang working relationship nyo. My parents always check me sa taping.
"They give reminders, did you have breakfast, napupuyat ka ba? I assure them I’m always a good girl on the set.”
