ADRIANA SO got the surprise of her life when Director Perci Intalan suddenly called her to say that she’ll be included in the cast of TV5’s hit soap “Paano ang Pangako.”
What happened was that Danita Paner, who originally played the role of the villainous Andi in the story, begged off to do another lock in taping of the show in San Pablo as she’s scared because of the surge of cases in the pandemic.
Direk Perci explains in the zoom presscon of their season finale: “When she said ayaw niya, sabi namin, if she’s not comfortable to shoot, ayaw rin namin siyang pilitin. We meant to get Adriana noong start pa lang ng show last year, but she’s then busy with ‘Gameboys’ and ‘Pearl Next Door’.
"But this time, bakante siya, so we called her, the day before the shoot lang. Nagulat siya, but no question asked, next day, diretso na siyang nagpunta sa San Pablo for her shoot. And we’re very thankful she said yes, sumabak agad siya and she’s very good.”
So she didn’t she have second thoughts in just inheriting the role that was started by someone else?
“None at all. When they offered the role to me, para kong binuhusan ng cold water. Ang ganda ng role ni Andi, very complex. Big challenge siya, and the fact that they considered me for the role is such a big thing for me.
"Sobrang maldita yung character ni Andi. Kinidnap niya si Maricel Laxa, she’s so manipulative sa lahat ng characters and she became mentally challenged after she got arrested. Mahirap siya, but I really enjoyed doing it.”
It’s the first time for her to portray such a scheming character.
“Direk Perci guided me on how to play the role, gave me pointers kung may kulang or sobra. I also watched past episodes of Seasons 1 and 2, but now, in Season 3, we a show a different side of Andi.’
"Dito, ipapakita ang back story ng character niya, why she’s behaving like that, kung ano ang pinanggagalingan niya.”
She did a Boys Love series “Gameboys”, then Girls Love series “Pearl Next Door”. Did she get any suitors from the LGBT community?
“No naman. But I received so many sweet messages sa Instagram, that I really appreciate. They all said gusto nila yung character ni Pearl. Because of Pearl, people are now treating me seriously.
"But I think they’ll treat me more seriously after watching ‘Paano ang Pangako’ kasi may scenes na nagsu-switch yung personality ko and I get to show an entire range of different emotions in one scene.
"Watch out for ‘Gameboys 2’, we’ve shot it na at abangan nyo dahil ang dami niyang kilig scenes.”
