GARDO VERSOZA is one actor whose work is not affected by the lockdown. Because of his hit Tiktok videos, some quarters now call him the Tiktok King. "Yes, dahil sa Tiktok, ang daming dumating na ayuda sa akin," he says. "Thank you po sa lahat!"
And he continues to be busy both on the small and the big screen. For GMA-7, he plays villain to Gabby Concepcion in the hit primetime soap, “First Yaya”, in his role as a scheming congressman.
Now, in Viva’s horror flick for Holy Week, “Biyernes Santos”, he plays the role of a senator.
“I’m just thankful to our Lord dahil hindi Niya ako pinabayaan,” he says. “I’m happy to be part of ‘Biyernes Santo’ kasi I enjoyed working with our director, Pedring Lopez.
"Nakakatensyon itong movie namin, but he’s so cool on the set. Hindi naha-highblood at all.”
He adds that the movie is of international quality.
“I really want to congratulate Direk Pedring. Congrats sa movie namin kasi puede mong isabay ito sa Hollywood. Iilan lang ang movies nating puede nating ihanay sa abroad.
"Itong 'Biyernes Santo', kapag napanood mo, mamamangha ka and you’ll be proud na nakakagawa tayo ng ganitong pelikula. It’s really scary. Kahit yung wife ko, trailer pa lang, hindi na matagalan.”
How does he feel now that their film will just be shown online in Viva Max and not in actual theaters?
“Siempre, it’s sad na hindi ito sa sinehan mapalabas kasi pam-big screen talaga ito, but we have to take into consideration the health of the moviegoers, lalo na ngayong tumataas ang cases of infection.
"We should just be thankful that we now have different platforms like Viva Max, where we can watch new films. So tiyaga-tiyaga muna tayo sa ganito.”
Since the title of their film is “Biyernes Santos”, what are his memories of Good Friday?
“Ang natatandaan ko, when I was young, kapag Biyernes Santo, bawal ang lahat, bawal mag-TV at radyo, bawal pati maligo. Ang puede lang talaga is to go to Church and do stations of the cross.
"But now, we do bisikleta Iglesia, not just visita Iglesia. Kasi we go to different churches na nakabisikleta. Umaabot kami from Pangasinan hanggang sa Laguna doing church-hopping para makapagnilay-nilay.”
What is the connection of “Biyernes Santo” to their film?
“The story is set during Holy Week. It starts on Holy Monday and ends on Good Friday na patay ang Diyos kaya evil can reign. The story is about the fight between good and evil.
"I play Roy Asunchion, a former senator, wife ko rito si Andrea del Rosario and anak namin ang new actress na si Via Ortega as Aurora, who is malapit sa bad spirits so dinala ko siya sa bahay namin sa probinsiya to protect her during Holy Week.
"I got Ella Cruz, an espiritista and healer, to help guard her against evil spirits that are attacking her. But something will happen noong Biernes Santo that will show a dark secret na nangyari in my past.
"Kasama rin dito si Mark Anthony Fernandez who plays St. Michael the archangel.”
