RURU MADRID and Shaira Diaz are paired in the second season of GMA-7’s “I Can See You”.
It’s common knowledge that Ruru’s special someone is Bianca Umali and Shaira has been on with Edgar Allan Guzman for sometime now. But GMA-7 is obviously unfazed by this.
After pairing Ruru and Shaira for about a week in GMA News Channel’s “The Lost Recipe”, they are now together again in the episode titled “On My Way to You” of GMA’s hit drama anthology “I Can See You”, whose first season was well received.
Shaira plays Raquel or Rocky. She’s on her way to the altar to meet her groom, Gil Cuerva, but before she gets to him, she makes an about face and becomes a runaway bride.
She got a lot of bashing in the internet because of this and to cool things down, she goes to a resort where she meets Ruru Madrid as Jeric, who was likewise dumped by his bride, Arra San Agustin.
Shaira and Ruru start on the wrong foot, but you know how stories like this go, they eventually end up in each other’s arms. Also in the cast are Richard Yap, Ashley Ortega and Malou de Guzman, directed by Mark Reyes.
Does Ruru believe viewers will still support their tandem even if everyone already knows that they are committed to somebody else in real life?
“I think at this point, mas aware na ang mga tao na trabaho lang namin ito,” he says. “Our job is to entertain people with the shows we do.
"Basta kami, ibinubuhos namin ang dugo’t pawis namin at lahat ng aming mga emosyon para mapaganda ang bawat eksena and I think people will see that sa performance namin ni Shaira.”
So how would he describe working with Shaira?
“Friends na kami ni Shaira even before, kasi si EA (Edgar Allan), friend ko na rin noon pa when we were still doing ‘Sunday Pinasaya’.
"But we never expected na ipagpapareha pala kami ng GMA. Masayang katrabaho si Shaira kasi she’s kalog, natural comedian, very professional, magaang katrabaho.”
So he’s not worried that viewers might not support them because they’re actually cozy with somebody else?
“To be honest, I think marami namang actors na nagsimula na hindi talaga sila, but kinakagat pa rin ng tao. For Shaira and I, this is a good start going sa pagtatambal namin in our own series ‘Lolong’.
"At least, now, may experience na kami how to work with each other, also with Arra San Agustin na kasama rin namin sa ‘Lolong’.”
In “On My Way to You”, he and Arra are supposed to be married but he dumped her then he meets Shaira.
“First time ko to do this kind of role at kailangang ma-build up ko muna yung character ko and then yung chemistry namin ni Shaira. Never pa akong tumakbo from a relationship, but dito, ako ang tinakbuhan.
"So inisip ko na lang kung ano ang feelings ng isang taong iniwan ng love niya. My character here is so scared to love again, then he meets Shaira and learns na siya ang nang-iwan sa boyfriend niya. So hindi maganda ang start ng pagkikilala namin, kasi you don’t know how you can trust another person again.”
In real life, has he ever ran away from anyone or anything?
“No, never pang sumagi sa isip kong maging runaway o umatras sa anumang kailangan kong harapin. Lalo sa love, kapag mahal mo talaga ang isang tao, never mong aatrasan yun lalo na kung andami mo na ring ininvest na pagmamahal dun sa tao. The same goes when it comes sa craft ko. May panahong gusto ko ng sumuko but i never do.”
So he’s happy with his career and his love life right now?
“Yes, I can say that I’m very happy sa mga nangyayari sa’kin, tuloy-tuloy ang projects ko at happy ako sa taong nag-iinspire sa’kin sa buhay ko. We always need an inspiration para pagbutihin natin ang trabaho natin.”
