ALICE DIXSON was last seen in a special role as Black Rose in GMA-7’s “Beautiful Justice” two years ago. She now plays one of the title roles in “Legal Wives” as Amirah, the first wife of Dennis Trillo.
She was first married to Dennis’ older brother, Alfred Vargas, who passed away and so Dennis is compelled to marry his brother’s widow.
“I’m happy to be part of this big-budgeted show,” she says.
“You can see GMA really worked hard sa production, sa research, sa costumes, sa sets, and I’m so proud that I’m a part of ‘Legal Wives’. This show will correct a lot of our misconceptions about our Muslim brothers.”
She confesses she herself has her own biases about Muslims.
“Maski ako, when I was told we’re going to shoot daw on location sa Mindanao, natakot ako, sabi ko, di ba may terrorists doon?
But because of the pandemic, hindi naman kami natuloy mag-shoot doon. While we’re doing the show, I learned so much about the Muslims.
"We have Muslim consultants on the set and I found out that Muslims are, in general, very peace loving people.
"They shouldn’t be generalized as terrorists as that is so far from the truth. Nabura sa pag iisip ko yung ganyang fears and I learned so much about their culture.”
Alice is turning 51 on July 28 and everyone knows she is now a mother to a baby girl named Aura. The baby was born by the surrogate mom in Canada while she was in between lock in tapings of “Legal Wives”.
“Noong first two lock in tapings namin, wala pa yung baby,” she narrates. “Then natapos yung taping namin ng February 14, the next day, I got a call saying our surrogate mom is giving birth na in the hospital.
"The show is really such a blessing for me kasi nagpaalam ako sa kanila and they allowed me to leave.”
She’s glad GMA understood her situation.
“So I left and fetched the baby and when I came back home, lock in taping na kami uli and it’s different kasi mas strict na sila because of the surge and increase in cases.
"But I had to be away from our baby for two weeks. It’s good we got a yaya. So natapos ko rin ang taping.”
“Legal Wives” is the first show she had to do while on lock in taping.
“It’s so nice to complete the show with everyone. I will never forget the experience of my first time to do lock in taping.
"I really enjoyed it as it’s a really very wonderful experience and we all became a family on the set, including the staff and crew and our director, Zig Dulay.”
“Legal Wives” will start airing this Monday night right after “The World Between Us”.
