SEAN de GUZMAN never thought the pandemic will bring him good luck.
It is while the country is reeling from the covid virus that he did “Anak ng Macho Dancer” which was shown last January.
Since then, he also appeared in “Lockdown”, “Huling Birheng Bakla sa Balat ng Lupa”, “Nerisa”, “Taya” and now, “Bekis on the Run”, a total of six films in less than a year.
His movies are being shown one after another, making him the busiest actor we have today.
“Wala talagang katapusan ang pasasalamat ko kasi yung iba, walang ginagawa, pero ako, sunod-sunod ang projects ko kaya wala akong mairereklamo,” he says at the zoom presscon of “Bekis on the Run”.
When asked what the name of his character in “Bekis” is, he was tongue tied for a while.
“Pasencia na po, sunod-sunod nga kasi ang movies na ginagawa ko, ang scripts na binabasa at minememorya ko, kaya ayan, hindi ko natatandaan ako kung sino ako sa ‘Bekis on the Run’,” he says while laughing.
It was his co-star, Christian Bables, who reminds him that his character’s name is Martin.
“Ay, oo nga pala. I play Martin, ex-lovers kami rito ni Christian and nang hinahabol na sila ng brother niyang si Diego Loyzaga ng mga pulis, sa apartment ko sila nagpunta para magtago.”
He has kissing scenes with Christian in the movie.
“Actually, biglaan lang yun. Wala sa script, pero sinabi ni Direk Joel Lamangan, kailangang gawin nyo yan, importante yan sa eksena.
"So ginawa na lang namin, ni hindi nga kami nakapag-toothbrush, pero mabuti na lang may dala silang mouthwash sa set so nagmumog muna kami.”
He and Christian are both straight in real life. How did they handle their romantic scenes?
“Nag-usap muna kaming mabuti para wala kaming ilangan.
"Sa first kissing scene kasi namin, nakita naming naghahalikan ang brother niyang si Diego Loyzaga with Kylie Versoza kaya nainggit kami at ginaya namin sila.
"Also, we trusted Direk Joel Lamangan sa kung paano ang gusto niyang gawin namin sa kissing scenes.”
In “Taya”, which has opened on Vivamax last Friday, he plays a horny young man always seen masturbating and later on, having sex with the girls in the movie: AJ Raval, Angeli Khang and Jela Cuenca.
He is required to do drama acting in several scenes and he wants to thank Direk Roman Perez Jr. for guiding him.
“In ‘Taya’, solo lead ako as Sixto, sa akin umikot ang buong story,” he says.
“And I’m glad nabigyan ako ng chance to do some dramatic scenes kasi gusto ko namang maipakita ang improvement sa acting ko after doing several movies.
"Marami akong nude scenes with butt exposure, but I’m glad na hindi lang ako basta pinaghuhubad dito kundi may acting din involved.”
He’s happy to do his first comedy in “Bekis on the Run”. All his co-stars in the movie said they’re scared of Direk Joel Lamangan.
“I’ve worked with Direk Joel na before in ‘Macho Dancer’, ‘Lockdown’ and ‘Huling Bakla’ so kabisado ko na ang working style. Bale fourth movie na namin itong ‘Bekis on the Run’.
"E, sila first time nilang makatrabaho si Direk. Tipo lang siyang nakakatakot but after working with him, you’d realize that you’ll really learn a lot from him basta makinig ka lang sa kanya sa shoot.”
He’s proud that “Bekis on the Run” does not just make fun of gays.
“Actually, tinuturo niya sa mga tao to be fair to gays and to look at them without any bias. First time for me to play a gay role and I welcomed the challenge.
Yung role ko rito, pamhinta siya, hindi pa-girl o effeminate ang dating, kaya hindi masyadong mahirap gampanan.”
Is it possible for him to fall in love with a gay?
“Naku, I don’t see myself falling in love with a beki kasi girls talaga ang gusto. But I don’t have anything against guys na nai-in love sa gays.
"Basta this movie is really for them at tiyak kong magugustuhan nila ito so abangan nila when it starts streaming on Vivamax on September 17.”
