FAITH DA SILVA is the daughter of jailed actor Dennis Da Silva. She joined Starstruck six years ago.
She didn’t win but GMA got her to be part of GMA Artist Center and she has appeared doing supporting roles in soaps like “That’s My Amboy”, “Sinungaling Mong Puso”, “Kambal Karibal”, “My Love from the Star” and “Sahaya”.
Now, she finally gets to play a lead role in the new GMA Afternoon Prime soap, “Las Hermanas”, as Scarlet, the youngest of the Manansala Sisters.
“I want to thank GMA for this big break,” she says. “Ilang taon ko ring hinintay ito.
"Nanibago lang ako kasi dati, lagi akong kontrabida kaya, kung minsan, nadadala ko pa rin yung pagiging mataray. Our director, Monti Parungao, will then remind me na i-tone down ko yung katarayan kasi dapat ako na yung inaapi sa eksena.”
Did she find it hard to play Scarlet, the spoiled brat among the three sisters?
“Hindi naman ako nahirapan kasi ang gagaling ng dalawang sisters ko, Yasmien Kurdi as Dorothy and Thea Tolentino as Mimi. They really treated me like their younger sister and helped me in interpreting my role effectively.”
She takes her hat off to both Yasmien and Thea.
“Ate Yasmien is very responsible. Dahil nasa lock in kami, she always checks on her family. Even in her vlogging pa lang, she always finds the time for it. She’s very caring sa mga tao sa paligid niya. Laging nago-offer ng food.
"Si Thea, very caring din, pero mahiyain lang. But you just have to break the ice for her to be warm to you. First project ko ito na may sisters ako and I’m happy na naging maganda talaga bonding namin kasi wala akong sister in real life.”
Her character is paired with Albert Martinez in a May-December romance.
“As the bunso, si Scarlet is always very determined to get what she wants. Kapag hindi ko makuha ang gusto ko, nakakagawa ako ng mga bagay na very questionable, like having an affair with SIr Albert kahit tutol ang lahat sa amin.”
Can she relate with her role?
“In a way, yes. Ang similarity ko with Scarlet is pareho kaming determined to succeed in life. But in real life, eldest ako, hindi bunso, at hindi ako spoiled.
"Since wala yung dad ko, my mom and my younger brother lang ang mga kasama ko. Kapag may chance, I spoil my brother kasi ako, I grew up na walang nagi-spoil sa akin.”
Did she learn anything from playing a character like Scarlet?
“Yes, bago ka gumawa ng isang bagay, you have to think about the outcome. Hindi ka dapat padalos-dalos sa ginagawa mo.
"Pag-isipan mo munang mabuti ang magiging result nito. Hindi rin ako nahirapan kasi we have an acting coach, si Tita Ann Villegas. at sa quarantine pa lang, nagi-script reading na kami.”
She said before she has not gotten in touch with her dad. How are they now?
“Masaya kami ng pamilya ko ngayon, even with my dad, okay na kami. Mas open na ang communication now between us.
"Dati I said I’m not even ready to meet him, but now, siguro dahil mas nag-mature na ako, happy na ako kahit may ibang pamilya na siya. I’m just so happy and positive sa mga nangyayari sa buhay ko ngayon.”
So how true is the rumored romance between her and Albert?
“Well, if it helps the show, okay lang. But I told myself to just focus on my work muna kasi biggest break ko ito and 6 years kong hinintay ito, so I’m really excited for viewers to watch our show.
"Marami pa akong gustong gawin sa buhay ko kasi I’m only 20. I still want to join a beauty pageant later.”
