OUTGOING QC 5TH DISTRICT Congressman Alfred Vargas ends his term soon and he is now preparing for his return to acting.
“I’d be back as a Kapuso,” he says at the special lunch meeting he had with some selected members of the press at Annabel’s.
“GMA-7 has already offered me a new teleserye and I’m excited because these past few years, I only play guest roles in ‘Magkaagaw’ and ‘Legal Wives’ where the characters I played, parehong napatay agad kasi hindi rin naman ako puede sa pangmatagalang taping because of my work in congress.
"But now, I can accept to do a full length role dahil na-miss ko rin talaga ang acting.”
His younger brother, PM (Patrick Michael) Vargas, is currently a QC councilor but he’s now running for congressman.
Obviously, their rivals are threatened by PM so they sent a package to their office containing two M16 bullets.
“One for me and one for my Kuya Alfred,” he says. “I’ve served the district for more than ten years and this is the first time I got a death threat. Now lang nagkaroon ng ganitong klaseng halalan na marumi, magulo, mapanganib.
"But hindi ako magpapatakot at tuloy lang ang laban, ang ating paninindigan na malagay sa ayos ang Novaliches.
"They want to scare us but lalo lang kaming hindi magpapatinag, hindi kami aatras at iiwanan ang aming mga ka-distrito.”
Alfred says they already got four previous offers for PM to drop his candidacy.
“Umabot sa daan-daang milyong piso ang inalok sa amin para talikuran namin ang District 5,” he reveals.
“They used various emissaries to convince us to withdraw but not once naming naisip na ikompromiso ang aming dangal at prinsipyo.
"Hindi namin kayang talikuran ang mga taga-Novaliches. At nang di nila kami nakuha sa pera, hayan, idinaan nila sa pananakot at pagbabanta sa aming mga buhay.
"Pero gaya nga ng sinabi ni PM, hindi kami magpapasindak sa kanila. Walang puwang sa District 5 ang mga nagsisiga-sigaang sindikato para makuha lang nila ang kanilang gusto.
"Kaya, mga kapatid at kaibigan, we ask your help to stand together to protect my brother and our district para hindi tayo mapasok ng mga dayong ang gusto lang ay manggulo, manloko at mandaya!”
They have reported the death threat to the authorities and it’s now officially recorded on police blotter in Pasong Putik Police Station.
PM is so inspired to work for the good of all these days as the Lord has just blessed him and his wife Chrissy with a baby boy they named Alden Michael.
“We call him AM and every night, kahit pagod na pagod ako, idinuduyan ko siya sa aking mga bisig hanggang makatulog siya nang mahimbing.
"Habang pinagmamasdan ko siya, wala akong iniisip kundi ang mabigyan siya ng magandang kinabukasan sa isang mundong ligtas, kunsaan maaabot niya lahat ng kanyang mga pangarap.
"Siya ang nagbibigay sa akin ng lakas at tapang upang ako’y manindigan at ipaglaban ang aking mga prinsipyo na handang magsakripisyo para sa ikabubuti ng lahat.”
