JACLYN JOSE was just playing a supporting role in “The Housemaid” but she was the one who got rave reviews in that Vivamax movie.
Now, she plays another supporting role in Vivamax’ latest sex-drama, “Tahan”, and expect her to give another formidable portrayal for her role as a mother who kills the men who make love to her daughter, played by newcomer Cloe Barreto.
When she attended the zoom presscon of “Tahan”, Jaclyn is currently in the States.
She is visiting her son Gwen who is studying there.
“Dinalaw ko yung anak ko and I get to spend some time with him,” she says.
“Konting bakasyon na rin. I felt na sa hinaba-haba ng pagtatrabaho ko sa buong buhay ko, I deserve naman to have some rest.”
Her other child, Andi Eigenmann, is now based in Siargao with her own partner and kids. “Masaya naman ang buhay nila roon, kaya lang malayo, bihira ko makita ang mga apo ko,” she says.
How is it working with a new actress like Cloe in “Tahan”?
“First time ko to work with her, JC Santos and our director, Bobby Bonifacio.
Okay ang naging pagtatrabaho namin so I hope to get to work with them all again.
"Most new actors na nakakatrabaho ko, nakakatakot sa akin, but I always tell them na huwag silang matakot sa akin.”
Cloe says Jaclyn really intimidated her.
“I hugged her sa first shooting day namin and told her na huwag siya mahiya sa akin.
"Kasi nagsimula rin ako naman ako sa pagiging baguhan, galing din ako diyan, so hindi ko sisindakin ang mga bago at batang artista, kasi sila ang next generation sa industriya.
"Ako, I feel na kaming mga nauna sa kanila, we have to be nice to them kasi sila ang future ng industry, sila ang magpapatuloy ng ginagawa namin, so we should help them to get better.”
She says Cloe’s role in “Tahan” as a young woman forced into prostitution by her own domineering mother is very demanding.
“Mahihirap yung mga eksena namin kasi ako, dominanteng ina niya. E si Cloe, napakabait na bata, masunurin, very nice.
"As an actress, she is just quiet, very observant on the set, always concentrating, very focused sa work niya, so i admire her.
"She listens to instructions and through Direk Bobby’s guidance, nagawa niya ang trabaho nang maayos.”
Did she give any words of wisdom to Cloe?
“Basta ang advice ko sa kanya, kapag sexy scenes. gawin mo na agad nang maayos para hindi na ipauulit pa sa’yo.
"Actually, I can see myself kay Cloe when I was starting pa lang in 1987 sa ‘Private Show’ where I played a torera. Like her, I’m just quiet, focused lang ako sa work ko.”
She saw on the set of “Tahan” that Cloe was scared of her role.
“Nung umpisa, napansin ko, iyak siya nang iyak, so I tried to comfort her. I told her wag siyang matakot, kaya mo yan.
"Suwerte nga sila kasi nung time ko, walang tumutulong sa akin. Walang acting workshops, walang acting coaches, walang tutulong sa’yo that time but yourself.
"Kaya ako ngayon, basta makakatulong ako sa baguhan, I try to help them in their craft.”
Her role is similarly challenging.
“This is one of the most shocking things I did: being a killer mother. First time ko play the role of a murderer.
"Sa trailer, makikita nyo na sinasaksak ko talaga yung mga biktima ko tapos nilalabas ko ang laman-loob.
"Suspense-thriller siya, e. And very gory. Hindi mo akalaing magagawa yun ng isang nanay.
"But as a mother, you will really kill for your children, ganon ang mga nanay, e.
"A mom can do anything for her kids. Mahirap yung roles namin ni Cloe, but thanks to Direk Bobby, ipinapaliwanag niya lahat how to do it.”
She says viewers should watch out for the film’s extraordinary conclusion.
“May rebelasyon and twist sa ending na talagang very shocking kaya dapat nilang abangan. Hats off ako sa director namin, maganda ang execution niya sa buong movie.”
